He also raped a woman at knifepoint and indecently assaulted other youngsters in the city.

Farmer was jailed for life in 2009 for the brutal murders of two French biochemistry students in London.

He stabbed Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez to death in their flat in what was described as an "orgy of bloodletting" with his co-accused Dano Sonnex.

Hours later, Farmer doused the students' flat with petrol and torched it to cover up evidence. He was badly burnt in the ensuing fire.

He must serve at least 35 years in prison before he can apply for parole.

Yesterday, Farmer admitted the attack on Lyon, pleading guilty at Hull Crown Court to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard Farmer told prison officers he hoped carrying out the assault would help him secure a move to a different prison.

Judge Mark Bury sentenced him to a further 12 months in prison.

The judge told Farmer: "You are serving a life sentence for murder, the minimum term is 35 years, which was imposed in 2009.

"This conviction is unlikely to affect your position greatly.

"You have pleaded guilty to an unpleasant offence of assault and the sentence is 12 months imprisonment."

Lyon will remain in Full Sutton to serve his sentence.
