Nuffield produce county stars
THE Nuffield Tennis Academy in Hull are celebrating after producing four winners at the Yorkshire Championships.
After taking part in many tournaments across the country during the summer, Nuffield's players ended their season at the county showdown and took the joint biggest team of 29 players along with Thongsbridge.

Talented starlets of all ages produced the goods and as well as four champions, the club managed to get nine people into finals at the event.
The girls events resulted in three trophies for Nuffield players, with Alice Thane standing out in the nine and under competition as she finished as a comfortable winner of the round robin format, with her toughest match coming up against Katie Moreton of Huddersfield Tennis Club.
Rebecca Hill emerged victorious in the under-10s with an accomplished 6-3 6-3 win against Bronte Murgett of Thongsbridge in the final, while in the under-14s, Laura Hopton put in some very proficient performances before being edged out 7-5 in the deciding set in what proved to be a tense final.
The boys events also wielded plenty of silverware and in the eight and under event Brandon Blackburn produced some excellent tennis throughout the day but fell one match short, losing in a close final.
The 12 and under final was an all Nuffield affair, with Adam Williamson and Harry Simpson making their way to the final.
Williamson had represented Yorkshire in under-12 County Cup earlier in the season, where he helped them beat all the other counties in the UK to emerge as winners, but it was Simpson who took the honours this time in hard-fought contest.
By far the busiest player in the tournament was Nuffield's own 15-year-old star Ollie Kaye.
After entering in three events – the 16 and under, 18 and under and men's singles – Kaye put in a momentous effort and battled through to the final in each competition.
After a comfortable under-16 victory, Kaye was then edged out in the under-18s to London-based full-time player Tom Jarvis 7-6 6-1, before finishing as runner up in the men's final after losing 6-3 6-2.
Nuffield head coach Richard Crabtree was delighted with the results and sees promise for the future.
He said: "These promising results show us that the hard work done by the coaches and support staff is paying off.
"This will now encourage us to maintain and build upon the high standards within the centre and the excellent individual results from the summer."
