Parks should offer youngsters more

I COULD not help but notice how youngsters of about ten years old are not catered for in our parks.

My husband and I were in Pickering Park and noticed trees burnt all around the trunks, the aviary had been broken into and two parrots had been stolen.

All this vandalism could be avoided if the youngsters had more to do.

Boredom turns them to seek other ways to spend their time, such as alcohol and drugs.

A lot more needs to be done to help them occupy their time.

East Park is a good example of what can be done. It's about time children in west Hull were given some thought.

Peter Pan Park is another park that neglects our ten-year-olds-plus.

This is an observation made when visiting these parks with our two-year-old grandchild, so it's not for my grandchildren I am making this point but for all those youngsters who have been given a raw deal.

The difference between East Park and these two parks is plain to everyone who visits.

I think these children deserve better.

Colville Avenue, Hull.
