COACH Peter Gentle believes his Hull FC side have shown they are bridging the gap between themselves and the best in Super League.

Disappointed to see his side's season ended with a 24-12 play-off defeat at Warrington, Gentle says Hull's performance proved they are not far off being genuine contenders.

The Black and Whites staged a late comeback at the Halliwell Jones after falling 24 points behind, but they never looked capable of saving their season.

Proud of his players' effort, Gentle called his first season in charge satisfying and says he's bullish about bouncing back stronger next year.

"It has been a satisfying year. It is disappointing at the moment though because defensively we gave ourselves a real chance in the game," said Gentle.

"I thought we got better through the season and that gives us a lot of confidence. We are building a strong culture here and we showed we are not that far off the pace."

Having given a defensive display worthy of winning the game, the visitors were too ineffective in attack until the game was lost, much to Gentle's frustration.

"The effort was never in doubt and I knew the boys would keep going and I'm so proud of them for the way they hung in there," he said.

"We made life difficult for ourselves, but defensively we were very good. It all looks well for the future.

"We came with a genuine belief that we could cause an upset and if our execution was better we could have done that.We couldn't generate any speed at the play the ball and it was disappointing it took 60 minutes for us to work out what we needed to do.

"Our completion rate was poor and that is where the game was won and lost, but the boys did everyone proud though and the supporters showed why we have the best fans in the game."

“I'm absolutely sure that Hedon Road is "appalling" to Siemens. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Having read "westhullred's" post yesterday about the future of Caravan Park, I too had lunch with a member of Hull City Council and I he told me that Caravan Park was being developed into an 80,000 all seater Stadium and as well as Hull City migrating there,Manchester United,Chelsea,Arsenal and Liverpool all want to ground share with the Dobbins.
There will be an olympic sized sports village created as well as a 500 roomed luxury hotel and helicopter pad.The Council are building a four lane super highway to link Caravan Park with both the M62 and M1 and on hearing about the project, the Prime Minister,David Cameron, has now decided that the new high speed 2 rail line will not now link London with Birmingham and Leeds but will go directly from the centre of London to Caravan Park and he is also seriously considering positioning the proposed new third Heathrow runway to run parallel to Poorhouse Lane in anticipation of the massive amount of extra people who will want to go to Caravan Park.
Siemens are closing their offices in Germany,France,Italy and Belgium and are moving all their operations to a portakabin behind the burger van at Caravan Park.
In addition, the Olympic Commitee have now told Brazil that they will not now host the next Olympics in four years time as all the events will now be staged at Caravan Park and I understand that Hudgell has bought some balloons and a couple of packets of sparklers for the opening ceremony.
The news of the transformation of Caravan Park has already reached Australia and several Australian players including Billy Slater,Benji Marshall and Greg Inglis have agreed to play for the Dobbins for no fee or salary. I know this is all true because in addition to the Councillor, auntie Slamme r's "contacts" have also confirmed these details and we all know that auntie Slamme r has never got anything wrong, after all she told you all about Rovers signing Billy Slater,Cuthbertson,Finch,Lopini Paea,Aspinwall and Keith Senior....................................Wait a minute,I've been asleep and having a dream and I've woken up to the fact that the impoverished Dobbins will still be playing at a disused school playing field with two rotting sheds on it at the bottom of Preston Road down Poorhouse Lane and have an under 16 level coach who has already proved that he can't cut it in the super league and all their best players have either left or are leaving.”

“Dexter. They will give permission to build anything up and down the length of hedon road at the moment, they are trying to lure anyone with money to the area to make it more appalling to Siemens.”

“theres just one thing these dobbin egg chasers must bear in mind when they talk about what the allams are going to spend around craven park, and that is,the allams are millionaires not billionaires, theres no comparison to be had between the allams and bill gates,or even richard branson, and abramovich”

“paulthe, arnt plans already approved for a 26 storey hotel the tallest building in hull, as the HDM put it, is to be built near north bridge close to the entrance to hedon road,so what ever makes you think they will approve another hotel a couple of mile further up the road?.those plans were headline news in the hull daily mail and they had been approved by the council at that time, some 6 months ago.”
