Peter Swan: Paul McShane should replace Alex Bruce in Hull City defence
STEVE Bruce will be delighted to have his full defensive options available to him today, as it all helps in terms of adding pressure for places, and making sure players are kept on their toes.
Paul McShane and Abdoulaye Faye are back in the mix for the game against Birmingham, and after last week, Bruce will no doubt have a look at his back three and consider whether a change is needed.

Hull City will be determined to bounce back after their defeat at Bolton
As I said last week, I don't think too many fingers can be pointed at the defenders at the Reebok, as it was just one of those freak results, and the opening eight minutes will not happen again.
But perhaps he will consider a return to the side for McShane, who has been excellent this season and has surprised everybody.

His form had been excellent before picking up an injury in the home victory over Charlton, and he is also a player who lifts those around him and raises spirits.
So, if there is one extra change to the side other than those I have mentioned in midfield and attack, it could be for McShane to replace Bruce's son Alex at the back.
The return of Faye for the final run-in is also positive news.
I can't see him getting a recall today, as he hasn't played for a good few weeks, and will need to build his fitness.
Even when he has played week after week his fitness hasn't looked the greatest, but he is a good, solid asset as he is strong and reliable at the back, and has the experience needed at this time of the season.
He also pops up with the odd goal too.

“Swan. Wasn't he the goalkeeper in the 1960's, or was that Maurice?”
