Plague of rats invade East Riding village
Pest control officers are tackling a plague of rats in an East Yorkshire village.
Horrified residents alerted them after the rats swarmed across their gardens in Flamborough, near Bridlington.
-
Hundreds of the vermin have been spotted eating food off bird tables and littering grass verges with rat holes.
East Riding Council pest control officers have laid bait traps at the infestation in the North Marine Road area.
Flamborough parish councillor Steve Crowther said he had never seen anything like it in his life.
"It's disgusting, they are all over the place, absolutely everywhere," he added.
The council has sent letters to residents informing them of the situation and giving assurances every action is being taken.
A spokesman said: "We are aware of the problem and have put down bait on the council owned land in the area and are in contact with local landowners to ask them to do the same.
"Pest control officers have already returned to the area to check it over for progress and will continue to do so until the infestation problem has been resolved."
Some residents believe that unharvested grain on the edges of fields along North Marine Road has led to the invasion of rats.

“I don't understand how anyone can say rats are disgusting. It's an irrational display of prejudice against one of the finest animals still living after man has burnt and polluted his stoopid way across this benighted plot of earth.
Good luck to those rats; they are doing no harm to anyone.
Mice on the other hand are a different matter; just don't get me going about mice: yeurgh .....”
