Play pulls no punches

Helping his paralysed girlfriend wee into a bed pan isn't the most romantic of ways for Peter to spend his evenings.

The opening scene of Jack Thorne's play When You Cure Me pulls no punches, with his girlfriend, Rachel, physically and psychologically scarred after being attacked. The 17-year-old is unable to move her legs and is bed-ridden, relying on Peter to help her recover. Despite its seriousness, the play is at times humorous, largely thanks to the sixth form tales of school friend's Alice, a blonde air-head and her cocky boyfriend James.
Middle Child's piece is fairly faultless, as strong performances add to a compelling story line of how human relationships adapt in the most brutal of scenarios.
