ONE of Hull's longest-established companies is relaunching itself to the business community in a bid to educate people about what it does.

It may be a stalwart of Beverley Road and probably one of the best-known business names in Hull but Oughtred And Harrison still struggles to make the business community aware of what it actually does.

The firm, with its roots going back to 1919, has evolved in recent years and now has three core business services – IT, archiving and property investment.

Director Geoff Harrison, a member of the fourth generation of the Harrison family who jointly founded the firm, said: "We're fortunate our name is so well-known, yet people haven't kept up with the many developments in our business. Our sales strategy for this year is all about highlighting what we do."

The firm provides IT support suitable for companies that do not have their own IT support, or can offer support for IT networks and software.

Another arm to the business looks after company's archiving needs.

Oughtred and Harrison has a warehouse where businesses can store hard copies of their documents.

It can also scan documents for businesses and keep an online archive for them.

The third area looks after commercial property lettings.

To help make others understand what the firm does, Oughtred and Harrison has commissioned a new website, which is now live, that showcases its business services in a fresh, modern feel.

Mr Harrison, who is heading the archival side of the business, said: "With our new website, we were looking for something different, fresh and exciting and that's what we've got.

"We're a company with a long and proud history but we're also forward-thinking and progressive and our website reflects this."

The firm's three directors, who include Mr Harrison, finance director Paul Harrison and James Smith, who heads the IT division, have been busy attending networking events in the city to promote the company.

The business has also joined the Hull Bondholders scheme and is passionate about working with Hull companies to raise the profile of the city and attract new enterprise.

Geoff Harrison said: "We think Hull has so much to offer and we want to help shout about that, The Bondholders are the perfect organisation for us and we're hoping to play our part in giving the city a boost."

The firm has also joined Twitter (@OH_Group) and is working with Willerby's Arrival Design, which designed the website.

Mr Harrison said: "This year is all about promoting our business services to those who may not know about them and letting people know that, unlike many faceless corporations, we're a friendly, family-run firm, with a long history of excellent customer service."
