THE computer tracking system being used on bin lorries in Hull carries out a number of different functions.

Each lorry is fitted with a colour touch- screen display giving details on routes and providing updated information on assisted collections, access codes for gates, multiple bins and other special arrangements.

Each system also has an in-built satellite navigation aid.

Crews record completed work as well as problems, such as bins not being left out for collection, waste contamination and blocked access to streets, at the touch of a button.
