BEVERLEY: Workmen striving to make a busy road safe so it can be opened to traffic are making some progress.

East Riding Council has announced that Keldgate in Beverley could be closed for another week after excavation work started to establish why a 4m wall adjoining Keldgate Manor became unstable.

The infrastructure under the road carries a range of utilities services. Electricity has now been switched off, gas supplies are being diverted and Yorkshire Water is inspecting a possible defect in the public sewer.

A dip in the carriage- way means there is likely to be a void under the road, which will need repairing before the temporary road closure can be lifted.

Daily updates will be provided."
