Mayor of Beverley Councillor Margaret Pinder said the council's plan was "short-sighted".

She said: "Dunswell School is an extremely successful school.

"The council is talking about building all these new houses in Beverley and new schools, but then closing one that works extremely well and is at the heart of a community.

"East Riding Council is fast getting the reputation of being a council that does not listen to what local people want."

“The section 8 visit you are quoting, I apologise, I thought you were interested in the full section 5 inspections that you usually refer. Yes, am aware of the letter in the Ofsted website thank you. It pleases me to see the staff team taking onboard the advice given and moving in the right direction. Still brings me back to the service improvement team stating in Feb that lessons (excuse the pun) had been learned and were now 'good'. Completely understand this has no interest to you and your belief the in-house inspection would not wish to upset anyone, in fact are incompetent. Anyway, the parents of Dunswell are pretty much chuffed to buddery at the way our campaign is going and we are thankful for your insightful interest. If you cared to join the campaign I'm sure we could use a fellow with your diligence and intellect.”

    “Dickymadc

Are you REALLY unaware of the Ofsted visit on the 18th December after which the Head received a letter telling him that, whilst some improvements had been noticed, not enough was being done to remedy the school's weaknesses?

“The other article regarding the Council 'defending' it's position is a disgrace, the comments made to the HDM by alison.michalska@eastriding.gov.uk regarding the Headteacher situation are shameful and ill-judged, I'd complain if I thought it was worth a toss.

And as for DanDrimire - I'm sure even by Dunswell's standards of education the children would be able to spell Troll.”

“DanDrimire, one thing I shall not comment on is the Head and his reasons to retire. A head who gives his heart and soul to the school and would be with us if he could.

The recent Ofsted inspection was November 2012 and we have not had a subsequent one since. In relation to this report, there are certain aspects not highlighted, the maths is deemed as improving, obviously a good thing, but none of the lessons, short term or long term planning was even inspected. I feel it is difficult to report on an overall school's education when a huge aspect has not even been perused. Another area commented on, but not highlighted, is the phonics work in the school. This is deemed to be one of the strongest in the country, led by a teacher, who, over the past six inspections has been rated 'Outstanding'. This has never received any recognition from the East Riding Council.

In relation to the school in Kingswood. There are plans for a 315 pupil school to be built (Sewells I think) but the Kingswood Action Plan stipulates by 2020 there will be between 700-900 children of primary school age. With Hull schools oversubscribed there is still a need for more.

Regardless of the occasional negativity on these threads, the feeling of camaraderie and support from our school community and further afield has been humbling. We will continue to support the cause to keep the school open as our children are happy, and regardless of where a child is educated, unless they are happy they shall not thrive.”

“Hi DanDrimire, I have watched over the past couple of weeks your comments and by the way thankyou so much for your interest. As you are so interested in our plight please pop along to our next Consultation Meeting and you may or may not find the answers to your many questions, oh yes please bring the OFSTED Report with you and we will of course give you any information that is puzzling you as it seems you take what is just a snapshot very seriously, I have been taking my children to Dunswell Primary School for the past eight years and I'm more than happy to tell you what it is really like.”

    “Dickymac

Remember please, that the in-house inspection team were the ones that let the school fall well below the accepted standard in the first place ..... not a very good recommendation for their competency is it?

You fail. I notice, to mention the subsequent follow-up Ofsted which noted a significant lack of progress towards improving recommendations.

At least the Head had the decency to resign after his heavy criticism. It may be dressed up as retirement, but the timing, AFTER the Ofsted, is far too coincidental for many to take notice of!”

“And in relation to the in house inspections being like a family get together, the council are trying to close the school, the service improvement officer was leading the meeting with Paul Butler. Non sensical to state they would give us a good rating for fear if upsetting us. They are trying to close the school!!”

“Dandrimire, well done for copying and pasting November's Ofsted report. As a parent from the school, I have a copy. What you do not have privvy to is at a recent consultation meeting we had a representative from the ER School Service Improvement team who had been observing the teaching, planning etc over a period of several days, and as previously mentioned, stated that the standard, in her opinion (and inspections, which have set criteria but are subjective), was now good! Therefore ones previous statement was not misinformation but information you no nothing about!”

“Oh that looks like the Beverley and Holderness Labour Party Sectretary on the left is this a political rally? and what has "The council is talking about building all these new houses in Beverley and new schools, but then closing one that works extremely well and is at the heart of a community" got to do with Dunswell and Christmas Pudding.”
