Racecourse to install new £300k sprinkler system
BEVERLEY Racecourse is using the close season to install a new sprinkler system to keep the course – well watered.
After last week's final meeting was spoiled by bad weather, Beverley Racecourse chief executive Sally Iggulden said: "It wasn't the big bang we wanted to go out on.
"I think we had a handful of good days this year but the last half was plagued by bad weather. It became the whole story of the year.
"Over the year our attendances will have been down."

The racecourse has no shareholders and is not run for profit.
Any takings are poured back in to improve the facilities and the prize money.
That is where the need for a new sprinkler system comes in. It will cost £300,000.
Miss Iggulden said: "It's ironic that the big project is replacing the watering system after all the rain we've had.
"But we want it to be a bit more efficient when we're watering the track.
"It will help us use our water more efficiently. At the beginning of this year we were looking at drought conditions."
