It has been alleged that marketing departments in councils and other vested interests are employed in a mass 'red arrowing' campaign in the Mail, when ever they find something which is not 'on message'  Woul the Mail make enquiries or should the public make FOI requests ?

“Lots of reds on here. It makes it a bit of mockery doesn't it. Give me lots of greens and I promise to stop posting on here.”

“I see Charleswelton has got 226 red arrows but think that's normal for him.....sorry Charles, just kidding.”

“Why don't they just remove the rating system as well as some traffic lights we don't need and maybe a few highly paid council officials.”

“@Paul Johnson. It's a very simple problem to address. If your computer is set to not allow cookies then the system does not recognise your IP address therefore allowing you to vote as many times as you like on any news item.

Anyone using an IPad for example can select any one of three cookie settings. If you select 'do not allow cookies' then you can click away to your hearts content.

Thankfully. I can't be bothered and I'm a dinosaur when it comes to IT but it is a pretty obvious flaw.”

“Rumour has it that all investigative reporters at the HDM are on the case...this one and that's the reason we have no interesting stories to read. An inside job or it's Karl Turner trying out his new broadband equipment that he had to wait in for all day so can can ensure he gets good ratings on everything he has to say and issues everyone who is disrespectful with loads of red arrows”

“'Pon my soul, the arrows system on this comment stream seems to have gone completely haywire. I'm reminded of a line from a hit song of many years ago (when I was still only middle-aged): '...you'll find those little arrows everywhere'.

I suspect that somebody with advanced IT skills has proved PaulJJohnson wrong. Well done, whovever you are.”

“charleswelton, your quite right of course, more so now your 1113 green! If some clown wishes to and is allowed to "abuse" the arrow system unchecked this creates doubt on the whole forum. It does not bother me whether my opinion(s) recieves red or green arrows as it is only "my humble opinion" so I tend to ignore it anyway. What really concerns me is the fact that when people complain about an article(s) content and it is not dealt with this then makes the forum lacking... once again only in my opinion. Now doubt you've read my previous post(s) so i'll refrain from boring you any further”

“It's plainly obvious the system is flawed or someone is manipulating it to suit themselves. Peoples comments are still valid but the scoring system needs scrapping.”

“charleswelton...your popularity is truly astounding...i think it's time i quit the forum as it seems to have little value anymore”
