FAMILIES were able to comment on a £20m flood alleviation scheme designed to protect about 4,000 village homes at an exhibition yesterday.

The Cottingham and Orchard Park Flood Alleviation Scheme has been designed by East Riding Council engineers.

Hull City Council is also involved.

Designers were on hand to answer questions, explain the scheme and demonstrate computer drainage simulations yesterday at the Darby And Joan Hall in Finkle Street, Cottingham.

The design team reviewed comments and altered the scheme design after a consultation last year.

It will now comprise one large lagoon and several smaller lagoons as well as diverting the highway in Westfield Road.

The latest exhibition outlined the amended design, prior to the submission of a business case to the Environment Agency for grant funding for the £20m scheme.

Councillor Chris Matthews, cabinet portfolio holder for highways, infra- structure and emergency planning at East Riding Council, said it provided a chance for "constructive feedback".
