RESIDENTS have welcomed an order banning a prostitute from entering a sheltered housing complex.

Aisha Delaney, described by detectives as "demonic", has been given an antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) preventing her from going within ten metres of Thornton Court, west Hull.

She was also given a four-month suspended sentence for breaching a previous Asbo banning her from all communal areas, other people's rooms or from letting anyone into the council-owned complex.

One resident, too frightened of reprisals to be named, said: "I just hope we can get back to some sort of normality now. For too long, she has been making everyone's lives miserable.

"I hope this works and really hope the area will go back to how it was before she was ever allowed into the place.

"Anything that means we can get on with our lives rather than living in fear of Aisha is a good thing. I just hope it works."

In November last year, Delaney, 55, and her niece Victoria Carroll, 30, were accused of terrorising the people living in the west Hull complex.

The pair embarked on a campaign of terror against the residents, running amok, taking over communal areas, leaving syringes lying around and stripping naked.

They left the elderly and vulnerable people living in Thornton Court too frightened to go out of their homes.

Detectives from the city's priority crime team managed to get Carroll, of Pease Street, west Hull, jailed after she pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud and two counts of theft.

She was handed a sentence of two years and three months.

At the same time, Delaney was given a six-month sentence for her involvement in one of the thefts, in which she had stolen cash from one of the residents.

However, she was immediately released because of the time she had spent in remand – despite having being imprisoned for 100 days for burglary from another tenant's home only four months earlier.

At this point, Hull City Council began proceedings to have her banned from the complex – where she shares a home with her husband Terry.

The order was only granted on Tuesday after Delaney continued to delay proceedings by being unable to find legal representation.

Although she faces jail if she breaches the order, another resident living at the complex expressed concern she may not stick to the terms of the Abso.

The elderly woman, who also asked not to be named, said: "It is what we have wanted, but whether she sticks to it is another matter.

"Nothing has made a difference before so I don't see why it will now. I think it will only be a matter of time before she's back."

Delaney has 59 past convictions, relating to 114 offences including theft, sexual offences, fraud and offences against people and property.

When passing the order, District Judge Ian Buxton said: "Aisha Delaney has been nothing but trouble to all those with whom she has come into contact. She has no respect for other people."
