Rock star Cher flies Hessle fan to Hollywood after Twitter chat

WHEN singer Cher invited him to meet her in LA, he was awestruck.

Cameron Rudland, 17, has been a fan of the superstar for four years and followed her every move on social networking site Twitter.

When she announced a competition for seven fans to visit her in the US on the set of her first video in ten years, Cameron could not respond fast enough.

Cameron, of Hessle, thought it was a joke when she started following him and he received a direct message inviting him to the States.

He said: "I thought 'that can't be right, it must not be meant for me'.

"Cher handpicked the fans and I then had to email her management to sort out the flights for a two-night stay.

"My friend Laura and I used to sing Believe in maths at Hessle High School and I quickly became a fan.

"When I won, the first person I rang was Laura and she was really pleased for me.

"It was a life goal of mine to meet Cher and I can't believe I've done it."

Not only did Cameron get to meet the singer, have his photograph taken with her and sit on the film set for her new video, he got to take along his mum, Julie, who is also a big fan.

The pair stayed in the luxurious Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in LA, went to see the Walk of Fame and visited Universal Studios.

"We were also taken for dinner and it was such an amazing stay," the sixth form student said.

"It was quite late when we went to the studio to see her film her new video and it was chilly. She came over and asked if we'd all brought coats.

"We had our own chairs at the back and could sit for as long as we wanted.

"I was there with my mum until 4am and she came over quite a few times to speak to us."

When Cher unveiled her comeback single, Woman's World, Cameron had it playing on repeat.

He said: "I really like the song and, although I can't say too much about the video, it's about all different types of women.

"She's had so many comebacks and different looks and it's what makes her interesting.

"She looked phenomenal on the set and it was overwhelming to meet her. One fan who went was about 50 and had wanted to meet her his whole life.

"Cher is not only amazing on stage she's very funny off-stage.

"She was talking about her followers on Twitter and haters who say she must have been on the Titanic because she is old.

"Cher just laughs it off and carries on doing what she does best.

"She also smelt really nice and when I asked what it was, she said it was her own fragrance.

"I've never seen her live because she hasn't toured for quite a few years. But seeing her in person was unbelievable."

Cameron's mum Julie said she was "gob-smacked" when her son told her about Cher's invite.

She said: "We almost didn't make it because our flights were cancelled due to the weather. But when we finally got on the plane, we thought 'this is actually happening'.

"It was one of those awkward moments meeting Cher. I didn't really know what to say to her.

"I've always liked her and it was such a great opportunity.

"It was all a panic to organise going and involved a lot of rushing around but it was worth it in the end.

"I was only afterwards that we realised it had actually happened."
