GOOLE Town provided the shock result of the day in the York & District Senior Cricket League Premier Division when they beat championship contenders Dunnington by 77 runs at Westfield.

Andrew Rodgers hit 77 as Goole notched up the league's highest total of the day of 240-8.

Other in-form home batsmen were Steve Hicks with 43, Neil Foster (29) and Ben Earl (25).

Dunnington's reply struggled against the bowling of Richard Mann with 4-46 and Ben Lamb (3-32) and was curtailed at 163.

Clifton Alliance appear to have one hand on the trophy after their victory at Easingwold was enhanced by the news that their two nearest rivals both lost.

James Postill hit 55 but Clifton were dismissed for 172 through the efforts of Paul Skilbeck 3-48 and Steve Piercy 4-24.

Easingwold then collapsed as Alex Renton took 4-32 and their innings only reached an air of respectability at 129 all out thanks to an 24no from Paul Redshaw.

2009 champions Woodhouse Grange eased into second place when they defeated Studley Royal by a whopping 157 runs.

Steve Burdett's 74 took Grange to 232 all out before taking 4-14 in 11 overs to see his side home.

There was a fine century for Fenner skipper Steve Sergeant which helped his side total 236-7 at Acomb in the top flight.

Sergeant hit 10 fours and three sixes, two of these being in the final over, in making 104no off 112 balls.

Will Rhodes gave fine support with 58. In reply, Andy Tute made 68 and Joe Dale 30no as Acomb drew at 185-8 after successfully coping with Dom Rhodes (4-44).

Beverley Town scraped to a nail-biting one wicket win when they entertained Thirsk after struggling to surpass a modest target of 134-9.

Simon Roe produced a vintage performance to take 5-22 for Town and although Thirsk's young bowling attack saw Beverley struggle, Anthony Spence hit an unbeaten 54 to help his side to 136-9.

In Division One, leaders York II had a frustrating and fruitless trip to Hull Zingari where no play was possible due to the condition of an adjacent strip, which was deemed to be hazardous by the umpires.

Pickering missed the chance to go 10 points into the lead when they suffered a two-wicket home defeat against Bridlington, whose tail wagged with telling effect.

There was an unbeaten 65 from Dave Greenlay and 25 by Mark Shepherd as the Pikes posted 199-7. Ian Winterbottom (3-56) and Casey Rudd (3-40) each bagged a trio of wickets for Brid.

Greenlay (4-63) and Shepherd (3-50) then bowled the hosts into a good position, but number seven Rudd hit 70 and Jim Dawson saw his side to the winning post with an unbeaten 37.

Londesbrough Park's plight deteriorated when they lost by three wickets to Hornsea. Dave Knapton took 4-28 to help peg Park to 179-9. Hornsea's reply was then capably handled by Paul Johnson who made 61 and Richard Medforth who was unbeaten with 50 when their side reached their goal with three wickets in hand.
