Hull Crown Court heard Groves, a caretaker at Hull Collegiate School, became angry and abusive after encountering Mr Lumb as they both tried to make right turns on the same junction narrowly avoiding a collision.

Groves turned his wheels, deliberately driving into Mr Lumb.

The impact forced Mr Lumb to the ground and he suffered cuts and a swollen knee.

Groves, of Kingston Avenue, Hessle, failed to stop at the scene and was found guilty of careless driving.

Groves was fined £350, ordered to pay £500 costs and given nine points on his licence.

surly that is assault causing actual bodily harm??
the bloke is a nutter and shouldnt be allowed behind the wheels of a car!”

“Deliberately mowed down Mr. Lumb and drove at and over his bike. Careless driving? Sounds like criminal damage and assault to me. He was lucky to get away with what he did.”

“I cannot believe someone actually thinks it should be made legal for cyclists to ride on pavements...can you even begin to imagine that? Its bad enough with mobility scooters almost running you over without cyclists added to the mix. Although I do believe children under 8 should use the pavements and although that would may be problematic at least they would be safe...but fully grown adult cyclists...no way!”

“Why should he lose his job?. This unpredictable nut job ought to be in a padded cell, not around kids, thats why. You do gooders make me laugh. Chances are he has convinced himself that God has forgiven his moment of "weakness" by the miracle the Judge only fined him instead of sectioning him.”

    “@lollyposh

Why should he lose his job? The incident was in no way connected with the school, and he was found NOT GUILTY of dangerous driving as the vcidence showed he did NOT hit the cyclist deliberately. He was found guilty of Careless driving hence the reason why he got a fine and points. Carless is the least serious and he got it becajse he made a minor error while driving and hit the cyclist accidentally while trying to get away from the cyclist who both witnesses agreed was being aggressive towards HIM.”

“i have never seen many cyclists not breaking the law or do we no longer have a law for cyclists,,when i was it seems it is ok for them to have no lights ,cycle on footpaths, texed while riding,go through red lights, not hold the handle bars, no brakes, what happened to our law or are they to busy pulling motorists over . when i was a child i rode on the road and if i had no lights for any reason i walked my bike on the path a set of lights are a pound from £1 shop or is that to much to pay.”
