HULL And East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is using the latest technology in some of its departments.

Self-service kiosks are now "live" in the outpatients departments at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham as part of a pilot scheme.

The touch-screen technology enables patients to check and view their details on the system and gives them directions to clinics. It also advises them of the areas they should wait in to ensure they are called into their appointment at the appropriate time.

"Airport-style" self-service kiosks are also being piloted the accident and emergency (A&E) department at Hull Royal Infirmary.

The trust said, in a unique develop- ment nationally, the self check-in technology in A&E is being developed and tested in the "see and treat" area of the department.

It aims to improve the streaming of patients to the right health professional and prioritise patients through a kiosk- based triage process.
