SHANNON McDonnell can add a new dimension to Hull FC's attack next season, according to director of rugby Shaun McRae.

The 25-year-old full-back recently signed a two-year contract with the Black and Whites after leaving Hull KR.

Competitive edge: Hull FC's Shannon McDonnell

Pointing to the impact McDonnell made in attack for the Robins last year, McRae says the Aussie will be the perfect foil for fellow new recruit Daniel Holdsworth.

"Shannon showed with his number of try assists at Hull KR last year how important he can be in that regard, and that is something we probably couldn't say about anyone in that role for us last season," McRae told the Mail.

"He brings a lot more to the team than we had last season and we are excited about him coming in.

"He has the speed to get into position on the type of plays we'll run. You'll see a lot of sweep type plays next season that Daniel Holdsworth loves to run, and Shannon has the pace to get into position to be on the end of those plays.

"He can run those arcs, but also he can come into the line and play as another pivot."

McDonnell scored six tries and had 11 assists from 21 games in Super League last season.

Filling a void left by the early-season exit of Wade McKinnon, the ex-Wests Tigers player will again link up with Peter Gentle.

"Shannon brings experience, skill, a competitive edge and having worked with Peter in the past I think it will help him because they know each other's style," added McRae.

“This forum should be called guessing games.Nobody knows who paid what for any player so why not give it a rest. Clubs never disclose the true ammount paid for players its all so boring discussons on supposition”

“any player that's represented oz s.boys must have a talent. now whether they may hide that talent from a previous employer, for reasons only he will know. that doesn't mean he will be as bad for a new employer , especially one that he wants to work with.
for me the thing i'm looking forward to is some flair or variation in attack. for too many yrs now we've been terrible to watch whether winning or losing. how the hell fc managed 6th last yr i don't know, but they did with a very ordinary readable attack.”

“Slammer: I base my opinions on what I am told through the press by the people in charge. The club said Seymour was staying so if they say this I believe it. The same applies to Tickle.

My 120K was not grasped out of the air like the idiots on hear that say things like HullFC paying £50k in solicitors fees. 200K for Ellis etc etc. It was a deliberate underestimate of what in reality a good scrum half would cost. Probably closer to 150K in truth.

Also where did I link SC and transfer fees. An expression like "splashing the cash" could only suggest that Hull were spending extra on top of the cap as Hull have previously spent to the cap max.

As the club have stated that they are not in the market at the moment and may well go with this squad it suggests that they are being more frugal and holding money back. Not splashing the cash as the moron(s) keep suggesting on here.

The difference is Slammer I talk rugby and try and use common sense others on here are simply trouble causers with nothing better to do and you know it so why try and defend them? They spoil the threads every day.”

“wilo, I'm not quite sure if you know this but transfer fees do not count as part of salary cap (SC).

You mention fc are currently being more frugal than last year re SC. Come off it, lest anyone forgets AP has stated categorically, on at least three occasions (fans forum, Radio Blunderside, HDM), the club will be spending to the maximum. At the moment AP is falling short on delivering this, so lets not spin this as something it is not, and thats being frugal.

I don't know how you figure the SC shortfall is circa £120k, how can you substantiate this or is it a figure YOU have plucked out of the air?

If, however, your guess is correct then it is hardly enough to have accommodated Scott Prince, so someone (or even more than one) would have had to be offloaded (Seymour to Cas?). I wonder if Tickle's move to Widnes hinged on the Prince deal?

On mcdonnell, fc have signed an exciting attacking full back and I know Rovers coach tried his best to talk him round until he realised what had been going on. On his play, you will hold your breath in defence and applaud his offence - but that seems to be the blue-print of todays full backs.”
