The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning because of the icy conditions. Temperatures will drop as low as -2C over the next 24 hours, but it will feel as cold as -6C.
Drivers are being warned to take care on the A166 between Driffield and Garrowby Hill, and on the A165 north of Bridlington, where lorries are struggling to climb hills.
An accident on the A614 at Shiptonthorpe is delaying traffic.
Hazardous conditions have also been reported on the A1079, A1034, on the B1244 at Hornsea, and at Etton, Swanland and in the Howden area.
East Riding Council and Hull City Council are gritting the main road network.
However, the Highways Agency is urging motorists to take care.
