"I would say my songs have a kind of country and indie feel.
"I've done a few open mic nights around Hull and Willerby and I think the audiences have enjoyed what I've done."
Jay says he has always been interested in music and studied musical theatre.
He took a break from it for a few years around GCSE time but is now picking up where he left off.
He likes to write his own songs and chooses life experiences as the basis for his work.
He said: "I write about things I have actually gone through, such as relationships.
"I don't usually cover songs unless they really mean something to me.
"When I write, I want it to be about something I can relate to."
Jay signed up to Star Search through our online form at www.thisishull.co.uk
There is still time for others to enter, either via the website or by posting us the form on this page.
