Nine-year-old Jamie Parkinson who suffers from the muscle-wasting disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy, at home in Oaklands Drive, Willerby.
His parents Angela and Gary Parkinson have been told he will be in a wheelchair by the time he is 12 and may not live beyond 20.
Experts say a cure can be found and the couple are raising as much money as possible for the Action Duchenne charity.
Now, Gary's cousin, Andy Parkinson, 29, of Beverley, has organised a sponsored walk to boost the amount raised for the charity.
Two routes – 25 and 35 miles – have been planned for the event, known as the Wolds Way Dash, on July 17.
Andy is the engagement and research manager at Hull City Council and runs an annual charity walk for staff and other people who want to get involved.
He said anyone can take part in the walks for Action Duchenne and he hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the charity.
"We are trying to do something every year that keeps the fundraising going," said Andy.
"It matters to me because that money goes to continued research.
"With the medical advances, that money could help to unearth a cure.
"With this charity, it's a race against time."
Participants in the 35-mile walk will meet at the Country Park Inn in Hessle at 5am on July 17.
They will then travel to Huggate, near Driffield, and walk back along the Wolds Way to the Country Park Inn.
Those who take part in the 25-mile route will meet at the Country Park Inn at 8am and before travelling together to Londesborough, near Market Weighton, and walking back to the venue.
Anyone who would like to take part is asked to e-mail woldswaydash@hotmail.co.uk
