Steve Bruce blamed Hull City's "Achilles heel" for defeat at Brighton, after the Tigers again failed to take their goalscoring chances.

Former Spain international Vicente scored the only goal with a late free-kick as City missed the chance to go second in the Championship.

Bruce insisted City were the better side at the Amex.

He said: “I’m frustrated. We created great chances and could have gone 2-0 or 3-0 ahead. But we didn’t take them and that is our Achilles heel."

“Bearing in mind we have two strikers out in Sone Aluko and Matty Fryatt we’ve done remarkably well.

“A lot of teams are evenly matched in the Championship and we can finish in the top six.

“It’s cruel to be without our two strikers, but we are doing admirably well without them.”

“I think City could have the answer within their own ranks - stick McShane up front! He could be another Billy Whitehurst. He is mobile and brave and would certainly upset a lot of defenders. Although he isn't a goal scorer, he is as good as some of the other options we have tried and would create room and opportunities for other players. Worth a try?”

“Headline after the Brighton defeat reads"Steve Bruce bemoans Hull Citys achilles heel".Date February 10th.
Headline after the Blackburn defeat read "Steve Bruce bemoans Hull Citys achilles heel.Date
August 22nd. An interval of seven months in which strikers such as Kevin Phillips,Billy Sharpe,Jermain Beckford,Marcus Tudgay etc , have all been available at one time or another.
So just what is it that prevents us from signing a "presence",by that,i mean a player who defenders cant afford to give an inch to.Some of those crosses on saturday were meat and drink to a natural goalscorer who can time his run to perfection and isnt afraid to stick his head in where it hurts and it really annoys me to see them go to waste, because i appreciate real quality and you wont see much better than that, plus Elmo was up against Wayne Bridge who is no muppet either! I am sure Bruce is as frustrated as we are,but is gambling on untried foreigners the right way to go,when players who posters have already mentioned have hit the
ground running with their new clubs.I think we all realise now what a massive loss Fryatt has been, plus Aluko to a lesser degree, which shows how much we owe our position in the top six to the defence and i,m sure we would have kept tabs on Cardiff if injuries hadnt turned against us.
Putting dodgy agents and untrustworthy players to one side,is it money why we cant compete or the old chestnut of Hull being an unattractive place for footballers? Seven months is a long time with the same "achilles heel",as the league table goal difference is now shouting out!”

“Oh to be Hull City fan!!! It so frustrating.

But hey,the truth of it is their keeper had a stormer [ man of the match ] and the ref missed a blatant foul on the City wall for their goal. Second half there was only one team in it.

You win some you should not and you lose some you should not.

Forget Brighton, it's now Derby on Tuesday night, which will be a challenging game.”

“Seems like Koren's creative talents are being stiffled playing him as 2nd striker, need to change midfield personnel a tad to accommodate Koren. Every time Simpson got the ball he had 3 Brighton players buzzing around him, and Koren was 30yds away, felt sorry for Simpson as he needs a proper striker to help him out.
Now is the time to take a chance, be adventurous and adopt a more attacking 3-5-2 instead of what is turning out to be a 3-6-1, we don't need six midfielders on the pitch.”

“I could not agree more with TigerPetes comments. Evans gave away two senseless free kicks in dangerous positions, which Brighton scored from. Koren should not be playing upfront, he is a midfield player at best. Simpson was isolated upfront, he was starved of possession and when he did receive the ball the opposition defenders surrounded him. We need to play two forwards upfront in that way defenders have more to cope with. Unless Bruce can find a striker in the loan period we will be struggling to stay in the play off position.”

“I notice Wood is injured at Leicester (coincidence they lost?). NP refers to it vaguely: http://tinyurl.com/bestgeb

This can only help City. In the meantime we have to find a striker that can score. Wickham went to Sheff Wed. Phillips to Palace.

    Is there anybody out there?”

“I'm a bit confused as to why Gedo and Fathi have been brought here at a crucial stage of the season yet not deemed fit enough to play full games yet,my question would have to be how long before they're ready?.We don't have a lot of time here,16 games to be precise!!

Surely the whole aim of beefing up during the January transfer window was to solve our goal drought, which was clear for all to see again last-night.We got the 2 Egyptians prior to putting in a bid for DJ Campbell so Bruce was in search of an out and out striker, obviously that money is still available and a decent striker needs to be forth-coming NOW.

I know it will be difficult but surely an emergency loan can be put in place for a player of decent quality who can start banging em in straight away.

It's a simple case of stick or twist for the Allams and Steve Bruce .....Are we content with what we have, including the walking wounded in the physio's room and will these players get us promoted?....OR do the Allams take one final 'blow your socks off' gamble that could well see us gain an automatic promotion, clear off what they have invested in the Club and see their investment grow substantially?

    I say gamble!!!!”

“The main problem is central midfield, to bring on Evans was a disaster. He dithers on the ball, usually passes sideways or backward and cannot tackle. He is weak player in the midfield, surely Cairney is much better. And then we come to Koren. In a winning creative team Koren can be very good, but in the battling game we are now playing he is just not physically strong enough. We requre strong strikers and Koren is not one. Koren should end up as a super sub and certanly not start in attack or midfield.”
