HE HAS just completed his toughest challenge yet and put his own health problems aside to help others.

Now, former Hull FC star Steve Prescott MBE, who is battling stomach cancer, is already looking ahead to his next charity challenge.

The 36-year-old is planning to cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats in June next year to raise money for the Steve Prescott Foundation, which he set up in 2007.

But not content with just cycling, Steve is also aiming to climb the national Three Peaks – Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland – along the way.

All money raised will go to the foundation, which supports Christie's Hospital in Manchester, where he has been treated, and Try Assist, formerly known as the Rugby Football League Benevolent Fund.

Steve only finished his most recent challenge less than two weeks ago.

He left the KC Stadium in west Hull to complete four marathons in four days, covering 104 miles to Old Trafford.

But he had to rest on the second day after suffering a sleepless night due to a build-up causing an obstruction in his intestine, which is a side-effect of his illness.

However, Steve rejoined the team later that day.

Looking ahead to next year, he said: "You have to challenge yourself and capture the public's imagination.

"I'll have to get back on my bike pretty soon.

"It's another challenge and it's something I can train for. It's going to be very difficult, but challenges are difficult."

Steve, a father-of-two who lives in St Helens, hopes to complete the challenge within ten days.

Although the exact details have yet to be confirmed, Steve said he is hoping to continue to inspire others.

"I'm trying to inspire people and show them they can get out and do things," he said.

"I'm in a unique position where when I was playing professional rugby, I was inspiring young people who wanted to take up rugby.

"Now, it's different. I'm trying to inspire sick and injured people to get up and do things."

Steve said he has been overwhelmed by the support he has received so far.

He has raised about £206,000 for the foundation to date and about £8,000 was raised from his recent running challenge.

Teams of six, with two support crew per team, will be asked to take part in Steve's next challenge.

Further information is expected to be available at www.steveprescottfoundation.co.uk from next week.
