A DRIFFIELD man whose two Staffordshire bull terriers were snatched separately in two incidents just a day apart has been reunited with one of the puppies, thanks to the Mail.

Anthony Thompson's dogs Millie and Buster were taken as he worked at Cranswick Mill in Beverley Road, Cranswick.

Mr Thompson issued an emotional plea in the Mail for the safe return of the two Staffies, the first of which was stolen on Thursday, May 14.

After reading the appeal, a member of the public contacted Hull City Council's Dog Warden Service to say they had seen a dog matching Buster's description running loose in the Pickering Road area of west Hull.

Investigations revealed the dog was Buster and he was swiftly reunited with his owner.

Mr Thompson, 46, of Bridlington Road, Driffield, said: "Buster is such a loving puppy, he didn't stand a chance on his own, but someone saw the story in the Mail and contacted the dog warden.

"I am so pleased. He was a bit shaken initially, but he is okay now, although he's missing Millie."

The dogs, both eight-and-a-half months old, were taken after they were left in Mr Thompson's blue Ford Transit van.

Millie was snatched first and then the next day Buster was taken, along with Mr Thompson's van and tools.

"The van is dark blue with a roof which was custom-made so it is distinctive," said Mr Thompson.

Police are still appealing for a man they believe may be able to help with their inquiries to come forward.

The man, who has what is described as an Irish accent, was seen driving a white van with ladders on the roof around the industrial estate at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information should call Humberside Police on 0845 6060222. Mr Thompson has offered a cash reward for any information that leads to the return of Millie.
