Stop the horse carnage
I dislike horse racing because of use of whips, and other unsavoury training methods, and the 400-plus horses that are killed annually on tracks.
I know it will never be banned, and I understand what attracts punters. Although I abhor the BBC (because of, in my opinion, pro-nuclear and pro-animal testing stances), I can only praise BBC Breakfast for recently highlighting the scandal of the thousands of injured and surplus horses that are hung up in our slaughterhouses.

CRUEL? Mr Broom dislikes methods used in horse racing.
The racing industry should clear this carnage they create ethically. Put 50p on every bet, and give 10 per cent of prize money to rest homes (sancturiess) for these beautiful, gentle creatures.
I am no longer embarrassed speaking out about animal abuse, as we – as recent reports in the Mail show – have been let down by the justice system regarding sentencing for animal (and child) abuse.
The RSPCA, with it's weak, insipid comments no longer represents real animal-lovers either.
I keep repeating myself. Time for change.
