EAST YORKS: Schools and colleges are being encouraged to hold a crazy hair-do and wacky wigs day to raise money for a worthy cause.

The year's Diabetes UK Mad March Hair Day is taking place throughout next month.

Events will be held to raise funds for the charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of those with diabetes.

Staff and pupils can pay £1 to wear an unusual hair-do or wig.

Julie Wood, Diabetes UK's Northern and Yorkshire fundraising manager, said: "Mad March Hair Day is a fantastic way for schools and colleges in the region to raise money for Diabetes UK, so we can continue our work caring for people with diabetes, connecting them to the vital services they need and campaigning.

"It's such a simple idea and has the added benefit of teaching our children and young people about this crucial health issue.

"We would love to hear from schools and colleges who would like to get involved."
