A senior member of staff at Endeavour School in Beverley Road has been arrested
The nature of the allegation has not been revealed.
Mr Harrison is a former associate headteacher at the Beverley Road school, but is now head of humanities.
He is thought to be suspended, pending the findings of a police investigation.
Mr Harrison's demotion has nothing to do with the alleged offence, according to reports.
A Humberside Police spokesman told the Mail: "A 46-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, January 20.
"He has been released on police bail, pending further inquiries, to a date in March.
"At this stage it would be inappropriate to comment further."
The spokesman confirmed he had been arrested in relation to a sexual offence.
Hull City Council also refused to comment on the nature of the alleged offence, or confirm if it involves anyone at the school.
Nigel Richardson, chair of the Hull Safeguarding Children Board, said: "The Hull Safeguarding Children Board takes any allegations very seriously and the relevant agencies work together to investigate the situation.
"Current national guidance states we cannot comment on any individual case while such inquiries are under way."
Despite repeated attempts, the Mail was unable to contact Endeavour headteacher Chris Straker yesterday.
The Mail also contacted a representative of the National Union of Teachers in East Yorkshire who refused to comment on the matter.
The school is in special measures after failing an Ofsted inspection in June.
It is the second time the school has been placed in special measures since it opened in 2001.
Inspectors have since visited the school and said it is making satisfactory progress.
Endeavour takes some of the most challenging pupils in the city, including many who only speak English as a second language.
The Mail exclusively revealed last year plans to relocate the school to a site in west Hull.

“Seeing all these comments off ex-pupils is really heartwarming. The amount of support he has out there is amazing.
I agree I cannot see these allegations to be true at all.
When I was at Endeavour Mr Harrison treat you as a individual, he listened and actually cared.
I hope Harrison and the family are all ok.
Allegations like this can still ruin someones career, even if they are found innocent.”

“Ex Pupil- to be honest- Yes, he was a great teacher. And I agree, his name should not be printed unless proven guilty.
The amount of offenders in that school is sick , Ive heard of a few more that have not been published. And its wrong.
Sorry but I believe something may have gone on, his comments on social networking sites to ex-pupils on pictures were inappropiate.”

“I think this is outrageous!!! Strightspeaker from your point of view I was a girl at that school that was put in this position By a teacher or should I say vile and vulger man... I had to go to school and get on through it and mr Harrison was one of the teachers that help me through this by listern to our points on view... Is called bad when certain teachers take opinions on what they believe as many believed that I must have been mistaken by what happened But the teacher admited it and is still within the school and was told to keep out of my way and vis verser... So I am speaking from that persons point of view and I believe this is utter rubbish mr Harrison is a deadicated husband father and teacher... The opportunity arose for him to leave the failing school in which it keeps getting called but yet he didn't as he knew he could help the students where he was an everyone respected him for this. I only took 1 year of gcse history which was with mr Harrison and still passed with a c this is because his teaching technique is unique and he could help anyone like this he is a credit to anyone who has met him and who's lives he has touched as he help everyone... He was an out spoken man and would tell you what he thought which made pupils go either way they really liked him which was most or they would be the very far and few between that didn't and I believe it is some twisted little girl that has come up with this scenario as they have seen how it has affected others in the past and this is wrong I had to get on with my life besides what happened yet no one was named and shamed in this case so why have things changed the teacher that did it to me never got named but yet was guilty and the hdm has gone ahead and named a man which should be innocent until prove guilty this is just another scam to sell papers it's perfectic!”
