A senior member of staff at Endeavour School in Beverley Road has been arrested
The nature of the allegation has not been revealed.
Mr Harrison is a former associate headteacher at the Beverley Road school, but is now head of humanities.
He is thought to be suspended, pending the findings of a police investigation.
Mr Harrison's demotion has nothing to do with the alleged offence, according to reports.
A Humberside Police spokesman told the Mail: "A 46-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, January 20.
"He has been released on police bail, pending further inquiries, to a date in March.
"At this stage it would be inappropriate to comment further."
The spokesman confirmed he had been arrested in relation to a sexual offence.
Hull City Council also refused to comment on the nature of the alleged offence, or confirm if it involves anyone at the school.
Nigel Richardson, chair of the Hull Safeguarding Children Board, said: "The Hull Safeguarding Children Board takes any allegations very seriously and the relevant agencies work together to investigate the situation.
"Current national guidance states we cannot comment on any individual case while such inquiries are under way."
Despite repeated attempts, the Mail was unable to contact Endeavour headteacher Chris Straker yesterday.
The Mail also contacted a representative of the National Union of Teachers in East Yorkshire who refused to comment on the matter.
The school is in special measures after failing an Ofsted inspection in June.
It is the second time the school has been placed in special measures since it opened in 2001.
Inspectors have since visited the school and said it is making satisfactory progress.
Endeavour takes some of the most challenging pupils in the city, including many who only speak English as a second language.
The Mail exclusively revealed last year plans to relocate the school to a site in west Hull.

“Seeing all these comments off ex-pupils is really heartwarming. The amount of support he has out there is amazing.
I agree I cannot see these allegations to be true at all.
When I was at Endeavour Mr Harrison treat you as a individual, he listened and actually cared.
I hope Harrison and the family are all ok.
Allegations like this can still ruin someones career, even if they are found innocent.”

“Ex Pupil- to be honest- Yes, he was a great teacher. And I agree, his name should not be printed unless proven guilty.
The amount of offenders in that school is sick , Ive heard of a few more that have not been published. And its wrong.
Sorry but I believe something may have gone on, his comments on social networking sites to ex-pupils on pictures were inappropiate.”

“I think this is outrageous!!! Strightspeaker from your point of view I was a girl at that school that was put in this position By a teacher or should I say vile and vulger man... I had to go to school and get on through it and mr Harrison was one of the teachers that help me through this by listern to our points on view... Is called bad when certain teachers take opinions on what they believe as many believed that I must have been mistaken by what happened But the teacher admited it and is still within the school and was told to keep out of my way and vis verser... So I am speaking from that persons point of view and I believe this is utter rubbish mr Harrison is a deadicated husband father and teacher... The opportunity arose for him to leave the failing school in which it keeps getting called but yet he didn't as he knew he could help the students where he was an everyone respected him for this. I only took 1 year of gcse history which was with mr Harrison and still passed with a c this is because his teaching technique is unique and he could help anyone like this he is a credit to anyone who has met him and who's lives he has touched as he help everyone... He was an out spoken man and would tell you what he thought which made pupils go either way they really liked him which was most or they would be the very far and few between that didn't and I believe it is some twisted little girl that has come up with this scenario as they have seen how it has affected others in the past and this is wrong I had to get on with my life besides what happened yet no one was named and shamed in this case so why have things changed the teacher that did it to me never got named but yet was guilty and the hdm has gone ahead and named a man which should be innocent until prove guilty this is just another scam to sell papers it's perfectic!”

“To add further, I know of many girls who have 'woken up one morning' and thought they would spread lies of this nature. People who do only devalue the torment true victims of sexual assualt have to endure.
I will be happy to admit I am wrong if Rob if found guilty, but I will still stand by the fact he is one of the most respected and inspirational teachers Hull has had.
I do hope you, strighttalker, will also be able to eat your words and apoligise to Rob when he is proven innocent. How would you feel if you were accused of a similar thing and your name splashed over the papers which could possibly lead to your career in ruins? I do believe you underestimate the malicious and unfortunate capabilities of a minority of today's youth, which give the best of us, and schools such as Endeavour, a bad name.
This is also classic HDM agenda of running a school's reputation into the ground. As one comment mentioned they are highly uniterested in any positives coming from the school. I myself helped lead several fundraisers and community events at the school which never recieved any recognition.
Again, it is the fault of the paper for covering a story which is not yet fact. It should not be allowed .”

“To Strightspeaker,
There is a chance he may be guilty but our main point is that why do HDM have the right to print the name of an innocent man (which he remains till proven guilty) and cause him all this upset. A previous teacher experience the same treatment years ago when I attended the school and was found innocent. The accusations were malicous and directed as revenge because kids these days know dam well that accusations of this type will not be ignored. The teacher in question experienced near breakdown following the stress and heartbreak caused being dragged through the ordeal.
Have a thought for the upset this is causing an innocent (till proven guilty) man and his family, all of which could have been minimised by the name not being printed until a solid conclusion has been reached by the justice system.
Can you not see how an episode such as this will highly deter people entering a career in education? How it undermines the authority of teaching staff? Parents are the fisrt to complain of the lack of good teaching in this country, but can you honestly blame people for not wanting to be a teacher?
My support remains with Rob.”

“I was a student of Mr Harrisons since he arrived at the old William Gee when I was in year 7. He was the greatest teacher I have ever known and an inspiration to me as I currently study history at degree level. He was a friend and mentor, I refuse to believe these allegations. My partner and I have the upmost respect for the man and his family. If this "ALLEGATION" turns out to be true (which I doubt) then it would be completely against the character of the man. He told it as it was and that may have rubbed people up the wrong, but it was this that made him a role model for students and adults alike in a era when people are scared to have an opinion. His former colleagues regardless of whether you liked the man, should respect him, ex teacher your a fool!!! All former students I know do not believe this and if you'd ever met the man neither would you. Hull Daily mail call themselves a paper, I call it toilet roll! You have no right to print an respected member of the communities name until hes proven guilty, no morals or respect. Tragic!!!”

“Wait there everyone! Has any of you Endeavour students, ex students or members of the public taken a step back and actually thought about what if these accusations are true? Dont you think if they are true that some poor girls life has been shaken to the core and properly scarred for life and will never be the same girl again! If these accusations are true then take a minuit to think about the victim in this and her family, there life would be changed forever! And as for Mr Robert Harrison been a great teacher ect. well if he is found to be guilty then of course he would have been a good teacher because if it was his plan to commit a sexual crime he would not have gotten very far if he was nasty to students would he? That is the way sexual predators work, build up a friendship create a false pretence and suck some poor girl in! And students of Endeavour what if it was you? What if he was being nice to you and he had it planned for you! You would also like the chance to be heard! What if it is true and this girl never spoke out and in 15 years time it was your child that went to Endeavour and became his victim and you had to hold them in your arms crying? I know for a fact you would want to know if this happened to a girl before why did she not speak out 15 years earlyer about it! Because of people like you that are not willing to await the out come of the case and just jump on this girls back! When you are writing your comments of support for this man just think if he is found guilty will you say sorry to this girl? I dont think this girl would have woken up one day and thought today i will make up lies about one of my teachers! Remember people there is no smoke without fire!”
