A THOUGHTFUL pub has raised hundreds of pounds in aid of a cancer charity – and they want to thank the customers who donated.

In just two months, The Trawlerman, in Cleethorpes, has raised nearly £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The effort was in memory of a regular customer Dave Alderson, who died from cancer, and a staff member's mum, Nicola Lilly, who passed away in November from stomach cancer.

The pub team were certainly hands-on and took part in several events throughout December and January, such as a midnight walk, head shaving and a cyclothon. Assistant manager Becky Flower said: "It's all about team spirit to achieve what we did and I am so proud of everyone taking part in all of the fundraising events.

"My favourite one had to be the midnight walk, and we raised £308 from it.

"It was freezing and in December – but it was nice to mingle and speak to everyone whilst taking part.

"Another successful event was the cyclothon, where team members were on an exercise bike for several hours in the pub.

"We raised £245 from that, thanks to the hard work of staff and all the customers donating."

Crystal Ness, Macmillan's fundraising manager for North East Lincolnshire, said: "Fundraising in pubs is a great idea because the whole team gets behind it and so do customers.

"The pub was decked out with loads of balloons and posters for the event and everyone enjoyed taking part.

"The team and customer have done absolutely amazing to raise £1,730."
