An investigation has been launched after a 14-year-old boy had his pelvis smashed when he was hit by a four-wheel-drive.

The teenager, who was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary, also ended up with injuries to his face after he was struck by the Land Rover Freelander.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened on the flyover in Southcoates Lane, just south of Rosmead Street, east Hull, at 7.30pm on Saturday.

The green Land Rover was travelling towards Hedon Road when it hit the boy.

Witnesses have been asked to call police on 0845 6060222.

“This is NOT a hate campaign against 4x4 drivers. That remark was vile and malicious. Can anyone imagine how this driver is feeling? Driving down a main and busy road, you would not expect a teenage boy to be chasing footballs into it. The skid marks on the road show that the driver was intent on avoiding the boy. Whether the vehicle was a 4x4 or a car, or any other vehicle for that matter, an accident is purely an accident.”

“While I am not a great fan of Chelsea tractors, or the driving habbits of some the owners, it would seem that the HDM has this driver banged to rights.

I remember the days when this would have been reported as "A pedestrian was in collision with a Land Rover" Thus not implying any blame until the investigation was complete.”

“I live just a few yards from where this accident happened. Its a very sharp corner next to the fish shop and im hardly suprised it did ,some people who use this shop park on the double yellow lines either side of this corner while waiting to get served or wait till their passengers/s get served making the corner an accident waiting to happen.Get of your lazy fat butts and walk the 20 yards from a safe parking place eh.”

“Was the Land Rover on the pavement? Or, what was the boy doing on the road?

We will await the facts, and the truth will out!”
