A teenager was airlifted to hospital following a sledging accident over the weekend.

The girl, who is in her late teens, was airlifted from Fridaythorpe, near Driffield, to York Hospital following the accident at about 1.30pm on Saturday.

Forecasters have said the cold snap is set to end this week with cloud cover moving down the country from the north, bringing slightly warmer weather after several days and nights of bitterly cold temperatures.

“Every child should enjoy the thrill of sledging, where my sons went to school they used everything from trays and old bath tubs to sledge, no parent ever tried to sue the school even though there were often injuries!”

“Sledging on the 'green hill' on OPE in the late 60s/early 70's was brilliant. Sorry to all those householders who had to go 'pick up' their dustbin lids from the bottom of the hill after the close of play...lol. Such good times!”

“Thousands of people enjoying sledging, there is a risk to anything and accidents happen.

I hope the girl concerned makes a speedy and full recovery.

I guess Perry Farrell is just looking to get a reaction if not I suggest he wraps himself up in cotton wool in a padded cell and leaves the rest of us to enjoy life - risks and all.”

“The practice of "sledging" should be banned.”
