Tenerife killers could be free in five years
Two teenagers who confessed to killing an East Riding grandfather in Tenerife could be released in five years.
The news emerged as Peter Cockshutt's body was finally flown home to East Yorkshire yesterday, to the relief of his wife and five children.
Mr Cockshutt, of Brandesburton, near Hornsea, was stabbed to death in an apparent bungled burglary in his holiday villa in Costa Silencio, on February 6.
According to sources in Spain, the teenagers who confessed to stabbing 71-year-old Mr Cockshutt would get no more than five years in a young offenders institution, if convicted.
Under Spanish law, this is the maximum sentence for people who have committed murder between the ages of 14 and 15.
This means the 14-year-old boy from Chile, who is said to have stabbed Mr Cockshutt, could be out by the time he 19.
The 16-year-old from Uruguay, who allegedly pinned Mr Cockshutt down while he was murdered, turned 16 just a few days after the murder, but will sentenced as a 15-year-old.
Both boys have been charged with homicide and violent robbery.
A source told the Mail: "The prosecution will be looking for the maximum tariff of five years custodial sentence in a high-security young offenders' centre.
"This will be followed by three years on supervised probation.
"This will probably come as a shock to Mr Cockshutt's family.
"It may not seem tough to people in England, but it the longest they can be given."
Yesterday afternoon, Mr Cockshutt's body was flown back from Tenerife, three weeks after his death.
His daughter Janice Hackett, 48, of east Hull, said: "It has been such a heartache to try to get Dad back home.
"It is a big relief that Dad is finally coming home."

“seems like the politically correct, human rights rubbish permeates Spanish territories also. What are a couple of scum-sucking pigs from Chile & Uruguay doing there anyway, and at that age ?
Restore the death penalty, agree or disagree ? lethal injection would do nicely.
Also make it retrospective so we can execute Peter Sutcliffe, Ian Brady, Ian Huntley and all the other murderes who have forfeited their right to live.”

“Good point Bully, Brown they'll be brought here for "Human Rights", a cosy cell for a couple of weeks, playstation, trip on a yacht, go kart lessons, a few quid in the back pocket, bring a few cans and fat birds in for "rehabiltation", - yee harr welcome to New Labout hell, where decent people get crapped on and bad people can do what they like, all courtesy of weasel lawyers on £200 per HOUR, taking the urine out of the very society they are supposed to serve.
And then politicians expect our vote very soon - you have to be kidding - well certainly if you are from the "gang of three" - Labour, Tories, LibDems -all the same - bloody rubbish!!”

“"It may not seem tough to people in England"
Dead right there, looks like Spain has gone down the pan, same way as Britain, all this "liberal"-euro tripe is destroying us all - the european political elite have now banded together, trousering millions in salaries and expenses, lots of foreign jaunts and "harmonising" laws throughout the EU against the wishes of the people of Europe.
Hey! I mentioned the EU - surely the trendy "liberals" cannot call me a "racist bigoted little Englander" now can they? And if they do so what if I am?? Eh? It's nowt to do with anybody else.”
