The Mail understands the fight broke out between rival Turkish gangs outside the Plaza Pizzeria in Swinefleet Road, Old Goole.
Brendan Gutteridge lives above where the fighting happened.
He said: "I was woken up at about 4.45am and saw about 25 Turkish men, aged between 25 and 40, fighting.
"They were using all sorts of weapons and the fight must have lasted about 20 minutes.
"It seemed to end when someone drove a car and ran another man over.
"The driver tried to hit someone else but crashed into a bollard.
"At first, I thought it was down to family problems but someone said these people came from Hull and Scunthorpe.
"One group only had about four to six people and was heavily outnumbered.
"It wasn't pleasant to see this happening outside your home."
Other witnesses described their terror as the fight broke out in the street.
One woman, who didn't want to be named, said: "I heard screaming and shouting from Humber Street and I just thought it was a little scrap. But when I looked, there were lots of men smashing cars.
"I was terrified."
Another woman who saw the attacks said: "About 20 Turkish men came on to the street all at once with bats and machetes. I have never been so scared in my life."
The fighting in Goole followed on from disturbances involving Turkish men in Scunthorpe.
Humberside Police confirmed a number of people were taken to hospital and several arrests have been made.
Officers were initially called to reports of fighting in Frodingham Road, Scunthorpe, and a further incident in Old Brumby Street in the town. The fighting then spread to Goole.
The man who was run over was seriously hurt and two other men received leg injuries.
The driver drove away from the scene at speed.
Several people were taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital, Goole General Hospital and Doncaster Royal Infirmary for treatment.
There were no life-threatening injuries, but some were treated for serious injuries.
A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "We believe this is an isolated incident involving a number of European men who are possibly known to each other.
"A team of officers are conducting inquiries in Scunthorpe and Goole, working to establish the exact circumstances of all three incidents.
"Anyone who may have information involving large groups of individuals, seen in Scunthorpe and Goole in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday, February 14, is asked to contact police."
She also appealed for witnesses who may have seen a convoy of vehicles, believed to include a Vauxhall Corsa, travelling at speed towards Goole to call police on 101.
