A THIEF has been caught with three joints of meat in his child's pram.

Police detained a man for theft in Hessle Road with the help of store radios being used by members of the new Hessle Road Shop Watch.

Officers dealt with the man as he walked out of the store pushing a pram with his young child in.

The man had hidden three joints of meat inside the pram and was issued an £80 fine and banned from the store.

PCSOs have worked closely with the newly formed Hessle Road Traders' Association to put the radio scheme in place.

“Fiction The man in question did not steal the meat and had not left the store, there were shop lifters in the store this is why the police were there. The person in question went into the store with his child and pram and placed the items on the top of the pram in full view, after doing so he went to have a look at baby clothes and was stopped by a security guard who took the meat and in doing so caused a papercut sized injury to the child, which is currently being pursued. The man in question protested his innocence and actually went over to the police and explained what had happened. As the police had no proof either way gave him an £80 fine so he could go on his way and was told he had 21 days to dispute the fine. Due to the fact that it has not been 21 days i think this statement in incorrect. what happened to innocent until proven guilty more evidence for the accused I think”

“There seems little point in fining somebody who is probably that skint or that desperate for money, that he goes in a shop with a kid in a pram and steals 3 joints of meat, £80.

Surely fining somebody in that position £80 is just going to compound his spiraling money problems even further. Make him do some community work and pay off any fine he was going to get as all that will probably happen now is the he will get imprisoned at a further cost to the tax payer for none payment of this £80 fine.”
