Thieves 'targeting mobility scooters'
Police fear thieves may be deliberately targeting mobility scooters after several thefts in Bridlington in the past few weeks.
Two scooters were stolen in a week and a third damaged.

A red Pride mobility scooter with a black leather seat was stolen from outside an address in Marshall Avenue, a new mobility scooter valued at £2,900 was stolen from outside a house in Summerfield Road and a Peugeot Speedfight motor scooter was damaged outside a home in Carnaby Avenue. All the crimes have taken place this month.
The theft in Summerfield Road involved someone cutting through a locking chain to get the scooter.

PCSO Mark White says, while there is no evidence to suggest the thefts are linked, the scooters may be being targeted either for scrap or resale outside of the area.
Anyone with information about these incidents, or anyone offered a scooter for sale in suspicious circumstances, should call Humberside Police on non-emergency number 101.

“"the scooters may be being targeted either for scrap or resale outside of the area"
Or is it just that ordinary people are sick to death of the damned things and the owners who do more than the legal 4mph on our already overcrowded pavements , expecting all and sundry to jump out of their way. As TIGER says, why so many in this country? We need some extra legislation and a licence to use these things”

“There is something I don't understand about Mobility scooters. I have spent a number of holidays in Europe, Italy, France and Germany and other places. In Italy last year I saw someone in an electric wheelchair who was severely disabled and the same the year previous again an electric wheelchair, but no mobility scooters. Why is it that you only see mobility scooters on the scale we do in the UK. Something doesn't add up.”
