Thousands go that extra mile for Sport Relief
THEY ran, jogged, walked and wheeled their way round a mile course in Hull to raise money for Sport Relief.
And with it, the hundreds of participants in the charity event turned the city centre into a sea of colour and celebration.
Hull's Sport Relief Mile allowed people to complete one of three courses – one, three or six miles – starting in Queen Victoria Square.
Among the runners in yesterday's event was one half of comedy duo Cannon and Ball, Tommy Cannon.
The comedian looked every inch an athlete as he ran the three mile course in 25 minutes.
He was met at the finish by Bobby Ball before they both took part in a hula hoop world record attempt.
Cannon, who has been to the city before when he and Ball were in pantomime, said: "It felt fantastic. It is so much easier running with other people than when you are on your own. It has been a great day.
"I think it is marvellous that everyone is getting involved. It seems as though it is raising lots of money which is what it's all about, as well as giving people a chance to get involved in sport."
The Sport Relief Mile is running in cities across the UK to raise money for good causes here and abroad.
The total raised so far nationally is £30m.
A trio of stars from hit TV programme The Apprentice joined Cannon and Ball at the local mile, including Lee McQueen, Lorraine Tighe and Hull-born winner of the show Michelle Dewberry.
Also running was Emmerdale's Effie Woods and former Coronation Street and Smack the Pony actress Fiona Allen.
Other runners were Julian Power and Tom Addison, both 16.
They were taking part in the course on bouncing stilts.
Julian said: "We are into juggling and circus tricks and we saw these and wanted to try. Doing the mile on them is quite tiring though."

“Well done to everyone who took part. I walked 15 miles for Sport Relief and although I am aching I would do it again in an instant!”
