Tigers star King banned from driving
Hull City striker Marlon King has been banned from driving after being caught doing more than 100mph.
He was stopped by police officers who clocked him driving at 106mph along the A15 near Bonby, north Lincolnshire.
Yesterday, he was fined £670 and banned from driving for 56 days at North Lincolnshire Magistrates' Court, in Scunthorpe.
The striker, who is on loan from Wigan Athletic, spoke only to confirm his name and address during the brief hearing.
The court heard King, 28, of Swanland, apologised to officers who stopped him as he was driving his Mercedes on the southbound carriage of the A15 on August 15.
He was travelling from the Tigers' Cottingham training ground to a hotel in Lincoln, where he was staying at the time.
His solicitor Simon Davies said the usual system of fining people according to their weekly wage could not apply in this case.
Mr Davies said: "King is a Premier League footballer and his income reflects that.
"His income is such that if you were to fine him in accordance with his weekly pay, it would exceed the statutory maximum."
Mr Davies asked the magistrates not to impose a ban on King, who drives to be with his family in the south of England up to three times a week.
He said: "I would urge you to impose six points on his license or a short disqualification.
"He pleaded guilty by post and expressed his remorse for the speed he was travelling at."
Sentencing, magistrate Wendy Bomberg said: "We have heard what Mr Davies said on your behalf, but we view this matter of speeding as being almost off our scale.
"We are going to disqualify you from driving for a period of 56 days."
In addition to the fine, King was ordered to pay £40 costs and a £15 victims' surcharge.

“Craig and Terry, i don't agree with your views that 'young men' will speed. Males AND females of ALL ages are prone to a heavy right foot at times, (i.e. take the guy speeding in that porsche earlier this year, wasn't he in his mid-lates 40's?)”

“So this is the sort of person Hull is suppoosed to look up to; the ones who are to project Hull to the outside world. Reckless drivers. Overpaid ball kickers. You put your future on professional sport and you lose all hope. It's a contrivance. A fix.
All professional sport is a setup. It's more a dance than sport. A fake from start to finish.”

“he should have been banned for at least a year if his job depends on driving he should think of that before breaking the law if you are in a priveliged position ie a big earner then you must protect the things required in order to remain so if joe bloggs round the corner who works hard in a factory was caught doing the same speed would he get off so lightly, not a chance a 12 month ban and then a struggle to be able to afford insurance after the ban our justice system stinks i dont even think you can call it a justice system”

“Craig at home, my knowledge of the A15 at Bonby is that is it a dual carriageway and therefore has a national speed limit of 70mph. whilst I do not agree with speeding young drivers will speed and will get caught. Hopefully the financial penalty will make some slow down but I think custodian sentences are a bit extreme.”

“56 days ban!? Ridiculous! Should have been 56 days at her majestys pleasure. That stretch of road has a 60 mph limit, he was doing 46 mph over the limit! Getting on for twice the limit. The laws in this country are far too soft on people who speed to ridiculous levels. I bet King is having a right good laugh with his mates down at the trainning ground, telling them how he got away with it! Untill the laws are toughened up, stupid, young, arrogant men will keep doing it.”

“I can help on this one Dave, maybe not such a bad idea. From Ist April The Home Office has levied a £15 'Victim' surcharge on every criminal fine. This is paid into a fund to help victims of crime.”
