HULL KR: Time's a healer for optimistic Colbon
HULL KR's Liam Colbon knows better than most the importance of getting a good pre-season under your belt.
This time last year the winger joined Rovers from Wigan hoping to hit the ground running.

In a manner of speaking, that led to problems.
When he was doing the unwanted, but necessary, running around pitches, his feet felt fine.
But when he put his gear on for training sessions on the pitch, that was when the problems arose.
The trainers he was wearing injured his Achilles heel and pushed his programme back a bit. By his own admission, it wasn't until several weeks into the new season that the problem was cured and his heels were healed.
This time around he has made sure his trainers aren't going to leave him in pain.
"It's the first thing I did," Colbon told the Mail.
"The trainers I wore shortened my Achilles and I needed a heel-raiser. That disrupted my pre-season and I don't want that to happen this year.
"This time of year is massively important and while we don't particularly like it, we know it has to be done. The more we do now, the easier it will get and during the course of the season the fewer injuries you tend to pick up."
After recovering from his foot injuries, Colbon went on to have a good season for the Robins.
As part of a trusted back three that included Shaun Briscoe and Peter Fox, Rovers had one of the best kick return units in the league. But the 25-year-old knows KR will have to develop that part of their game as teams will soon work out a way of stopping them.
Colbon added: "Last season we did well as a trio but we can't rely on that next season.
"We are working on how to develop it further and we have loads of ideas floating around."
Colbon is looking forward to his second season at Craven Park knowing he needs to score more tries. Nine in 25 games is a little below the minimum requirement for a Super League winger and Colbon is hoping next season is a more profitable one.
"I know I have areas of my game I need to work on, but I'm pleased with how things went. Hopefully the second season will be even better and I'm sure it will be."

“tony m, you should be bothered about hull fc and hull kr, if your a hull city supporter you will probably remember the hard times city went through with lloyd etc. both these proud rugby league clubs had collections with buckets to help your stricken club at the time. you either havent been following them long, or you have a short memory. perhaps you should remember this before you call the great game of rugby league and its supporters.”

“10-5, the free tickets are a good idea once a season for the games where the opposition don't bring any fans. As for dwindling gates, FC had the 3rd highest average, not bad for a team that struggled all year. Now, I also know that KR do the same on the odd occasion as I have been offered free tickets on one occasion during last season which my sons school were giving away for the South Terrace, or they do 2for1's for £14. Only way of getting your own supporters in there, then they have the audacity to charge us £20 to go stand in there.”

“thanks rocking robin, most of em on here probably dont even know anything about the game never mind go. dont understand people wishing bad on both sides, rovers and fc derby is the only true derby, and the rivalry and tradition cant be beaten i.m.p.o. dont know why some supporters would want the two teams to be in finincial dire. should enjoy the hull derbys and the rivalry it brings.think both fc and rovers will be in the 8 in 2010 fingers crossed.”

“rocking robin yeah fc are very jealous you wish. agar has recruited well for 2010, last year visa problems with crocker and lauiki and the carvell situation didnt help. there was imbalance, and although im not blaming injuries we did have a few long term ones. agar has put a very good pack together on paper and with the addition of long ,tansey, turner and the young lads on board fc have a good mix. im not expecting miracles but i can see fc been competitive again improving on 12th. if rovers dont strengthen cant see u improving on 4th place of 2009. we will have to see anyway. its a strong comp and getting stronger”

“Good evening jealous Girlie Birds. Amazing to read your take on the nothing story about Rovers accounts. I see one of you has made a story out of our groundsman retiring. Still, if it takes your minds of the fact that you support the 3rd worst club in Super League then so be it. After Hull's 2009 performance I thought Hull FC supporters might have other things closer to home to worry about.......... But then, hey, you've got a team of worldbeaters lined up for 2010 haven't you, just like you had for 2009.”
