He will be paid £45,000 a year.

Mr Grove, who is paid £75,000, said: "Being my deputy is a full-time job and not some political jolly.

"I expect Paul to work hard to justify his salary.
"He will be a paid member of staff with a contract of employment and very specific requirements to help deliver my targets and manifesto pledges.
"I am just one politician representing 4,500 officers and staff as well as 920,00 residents while in charge of a £180m budget.
"I cannot do this all by myself and the legislation allows a deputy to be appointed.
"The member allowances for the old police authority totaled £205,000 so this is saving the taxpayer money."
Mr Grove will resign his East Riding Council seat in the New Year but Councillor Robinson is expected to remain on the authority to represent Howdenshire.

“Did anyone vote for David Griffin to become "Deputy" Police Constable?
If we are talking jobs for two boys, remember the Labour premier and his chancellor and the deal in the Islington restaurant.”

“Obviously a campaign backed by a very worried Porkie Parnaby - he was on the telly last night pooh poohing the appointment - strange it was one of his own party councillors he was having a pop at. Of course they are both now in a good position to out any wrong doings at the East Riding Council - no wonder Porkie looks so worried. A swift retirement could be on the cards!”

"Bewildered, your name is appropriate."
Kempton, Bewildered is not my name - I believe these words are called "avatars", its part of title of a song I am very fond of; clearly you are given to cheap jibes but I, personally, will refrain from changing my avatar to "kemptonisatwit" - it would be childish
You wrote:
"It is no good saying it isn't a democracy because so many are too lazy or disinterested to bother voting and then whine about the results.""
Kempton, I agree with this sentence but I never said or wrote that. These are your words and I assume you are attempting to paraphrase- if so you are doing it very badly. There are protocols if you wish to put your words into other peoples mouths.
"Bewitched, bothered and bewildered no more"- final line of song.”

"and so ad-infinitum."
Can you supply the missing words?”

“For Keith Hunter's bleatings to hold any water and to take them to their ultimate conclusion.
Evidently the Home and Shadow Home Secretaries, Ministers, PPSs, Civil Servants - and the whole Home Office shebang having the Police Service portfolio - should never have been appointed. And they should all be stood down with immediate effect!!
To be brutally frank, the likes of Keith Hunter - and rest of Labour's sad sore losers that he chose to get embroiled with- they are doing themselves and indeed, Humberside's image and reputation no credit or favours by their opportunistic Tory bashing coming across as sour grapes, yet again!
You lost, get over it and furthermore, start getting used to the idea.”

“Bewildered, your name is appropriate. People all have the chance to vote. It is no good saying it isn't a democracy because so many are too lazy or disinterested to bother voting and then whine about the results. A lot of lives were lost to get and keep that privilege and an awful lot of people around the world would like the same opportunity.
Personally I'd vote for a long stretch of hard labour for anyone who thinks they are being clever by putting " simples" in their posts.”

"I bet all those people in the East Riding that took the time and trouble to vote for a Tory Police Commissioner and real pleased with this announcement. He's got exactly the same skill set as Grove, namely, neither know anything about modern policing...well at least they can look baffled together when it hits the fan..."
Yes, it is a real shame that we didn't get the skill set of John Prescott and whichever Labour nonentity he would have appointed.”

“AndrewCappEsq
I assume yoiur intention was to further qualify Roy Hunts point for us!? How commendable of you! ;)"
There seems to be some distance between what the Home Secretary defines as her role and the claims that Mr Hunt makes, if Mr Hunt makes statements they should be accurate and they are not . I am not responsible for your assumptions or for your punctuation; do you have six fingers on each hand or not enough water with it?
G`night, give Flo one from me.
See commissionaire Grove made the ten o` clock news tonight- not in a good way; one door never closes but that another one opens.”
