Traffic nightmare in east Hull and Holderness over Saltend protest
Commuters are facing major delays around Hedon Road,
east Hull, and parts of Holderness over a "blockade" at the BP plant in Salt End.
Workers are blocking
access to the site over "an industrial dispute", Humberside Police said.
There are long delays around Preston, the eastbound carriageway of the A1033 and at Salt End roundabout, which is blocked.
Motorists say traffic is backing up as far as Bilton and
Preston and the Seven Seas roundabout.
School buses are also stuck
The Hedon Road westbound slip road is blocked and there is a lot of standing traffic in the area.
Police are at the scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
* Songbirds Day Nursery and Kids Club in Preston has told us it is open despite the blockade.
Owner Susan Goodwin said: "It has been a nightmare for my staff, children
and parents this morning! I had to walk to work from Preston."

“Well said Mezz!! I can't believe that the police never moved them from blocking the highway-and can't believe the GMB condone this kind of irresponsible action. Apparently they are doing the same tommorrow - just hope the police don't allow them to cause this chaos again!!!!”

“I think that this is a selfish act. Many people have lost wages because of this delay and in this current recession and a constant rise in fuel and VAT prices, people cannot simply afford it. What about people trying to get to hospital for operations, births, accidents and emergencies?? Missed trains and therefore people out of pocket. It has also affected pupils not attending school on time and small business's are once again affected.
Not everyone has cushy jobs where they can arrive as and when they like. I personally have to make time up in MY OWN TIME for arriving late, others simply don¿t get paid! These people need to realise this.
Most people are not happy with their pay and benefits at work but you don¿t see all of us protesting on the roads of Hull and stopping everyone else from getting to work.
I agree with Hull Worker, they should be grateful to have jobs in the first place!!!
I am all for standing up for your rights but in a way that doesn¿t affect thousands of people.”
