Train disruptions after cable damage
East Coast train services are beginning to return to normal, after earlier power lines were damaged twice in two days.
Another train operator's service joining the main line at Hitchin said the new overhead power lines had been damaged, after the previous ones were damaged yesterday afternoon.
Network Rail, which is responsible for the track, signals and overhead lines, said the further damage to the lines happened at 7am this morning.
Road replacement services are now being operated by East Coast.

“Monday was a nightmare.
My husband and I caught the 20 minutes late train from Brough at just after 1.10pm. We made it to Biggleswade (30 mins away from KX) where we stopped for 90 minutes. We were told there was a failed train on the track ahead of us and also about the broken overhead lines.
The driver then switched ends of the train we we headed BACKWARDS to Peterborough. Another 20 mins wait to get off the train due to congestion. Peterborough station was chaos with stranded commuters. At 6.20pm we managed to get into a minibus with 6 other passengers to be taken on to London. I finally made it into Camden (thankfully the way the taxi driver went took us right close to our hotel!) at 7.55pm.
Yesterday, Tuesday, we purposely got the KX extra early, 11am, even though our train wasn't due back til 13.48. So many trains were cancelled it was mad. Thankfully ours was running, only 10 mins late too, and made it back home. The train itself was deserted! Am amazed more people didn't get on to try and make their journeys.
Oh and Hull Trains - while I appreciate the problems were not your own, please sort out the on-board toilets - they smell disgusting. Ta :)”

“It's a bus from Peterborough to Cambridge, Hertford, Welwyn or Luton. Websites are not very informative about the cause of the problems. The first train this morning apparently did the second lot of damage. You cant beat Southern's third rail (except when is icy).”
