Tributes to crash victim Lewis, 19
TRIBUTES have been paid to a 19-year-old who died when his car crashed into a field.
Lewis David Redshaw, of Bridlington, was killed after his green BMW crashed between the villages of Grindale and Burton Fleming, near Driffield, at about 8.50pm on Tuesday.
The car was travelling in the direction of Burton Fleming.
Lewis, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was a former pupil of Headlands School and Community Science College.
He left after completing his GCSEs in 2007.
Kent Walmsley, deputy headteacher at Headlands, said: "We were very sad to hear of this tragic news.
"Lewis was a lovely character who will be missed by his peers."
Two passengers escaped from the car following the accident.
A 17-year-old girl suffered a broken arm and a 17-year-old boy suffered cuts and bruises.
Both attended Scarborough Hospital for treatment but were released to recover at home.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened near the Argham crossroads.
Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the car prior to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call Humberside Police on 0845 6060222 quoting log 651 of March 9.
Mr Redshaw's family were too upset to speak to The Mail.

“i doesnt matter if he was or was not going to fast end of the day a young life has been lost and two young people are never going to forget what happend that night and they have also lost a dear friend i defey anybody to say they have never had there foot down in there car when they were younger,im not saying that speed caused this but people should think before they open there mouths and think of the young lad that died and those that were with him it was just a tragic accident”

“I cannot believe some of the people on here, you all disgust me putting your petty pathetic argument forward about who's 'driving too fast' and who is 'inexperienced' does that matter here? Can you not have some feelings? @ foj, 'i get fed up with using my skills to save their lives' shutup you absolute imbersile, you get paid for doing that, unless you do it off your own back which i highly doubt. Stop being such a moron, guess you think your clever leaving comments like that. You don't know what happened, you don't know who was driving, you don't know why what happened did. You don't know a right lot actually, probably cos you are the biggest idiot i've ever come across on the internet, I hope when your eating tonight you choke on it. @ fran you get em told pal! R.I.P Lew”

“Clearly this kid was driving too fast and if it hadn't of been him it would have been someone else. I despair of the tax payers money that went to clear up the mess. Clearly my condolences go to the family and its truly sad but with todays economy we all need to look out for ourselves.”

“Fran, I'm so sorry about your friend, there are some really nasty people on here, if I were you I wouldn't read any more.”

“foj, Hull - I am inclined to agree. I just don't think this is the time or the place. That said, you can kill yourself in a 1.2litre. They are still capable of hitting trees at 60/70mph.
I do wonder though if it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring in a system as with motorbikes, where say, you can't own anything better than a standard 1400 normally aspirated car until the age of 25 or something similar.”

“@Fran
You have said it all, "you were doing no more than 50" It was a cold ,frosty night, you were on an un-gritted, dark, poorly maintained country road and out of the blue you skidded on ice.
If Lewis had been experienced he would have driven to the conditions, i make my living driving, and all to often i see the results of this inexperience.
Floral tributes and small memorials. R.I.P.”

“Fran, Bridlington: it goes without saying that you went through a traumatic experience and that I send my condolences to the family and friends of this young lad. However, your words would have meant so much more if you could have restrained yourself from the use of bad language. This was not the time or place.”

“I was in the car on tuesday nite, and for all the di**heads who are on about fast cars and inexpierianced drivers you far from wrong, we were traveling no more than 50, and lewis was the safest driver you could meet as he was scared off getting points on his license, we skidded out of the blue on ice and the other 17 year old was a lad!!! For all the n**heads who do drive crazy lewis wasn't one of them. Maybe people who don't actrually know anythinhg shunt put their opinions forward as you f***kin wasn't there, i lost one of my closest mates who lit the room up when he walked in, keep your comments to yourselves.
R.I.P Lewis 9/3/10 you will be missed by us all and were all heartbroken me and dale miss you millions and wish we could change what happened if only all 3 of us had got out of the car :( x x x x xx x x x x x x xx x x x”

“From the perspective of a young driver. Where does it say High Powered car? All it says is BMW which means nothing. From experience it is more often then not the people driving low power cars who think they will handle and accelerate in the same way as their bigger engined counterparts. Sadly its down to inexperience that tragedy's like this happen.”

“Flowers do not necessarily indicate one less idiot on the road as you put it Foj. Unfortunately, the idiots sometimes walk away from these incidents, taking the lives of innocent people.
I am not saying i agree with fast and dangerous driving, if that is even what was the cause of the accident here (as we do not know the entire story), however, we should be pleased that the others werent killed, and not judge - the lads family and friends may see this, and if he was speeding etc or not, it is still someones son.”
