'Triple whammy' of west Hull roadworks as Park Street resurfacing starts
Drivers are facing a "triple whammy" of major roadworks in west Hull over the next few weeks.
Ongoing work to upgrade underground power supplies has been causing disruption along Chanterlands Avenue since June and is not scheduled to be completed until the end of the month.

Businesses in Chanterlands Avenue have faced disruption due to roadworks
A ten-week programme of resurfacing work got underway on Park Street today with congestion expected on Spring Bank, Anlaby Road and Argyle Street.
And the County Road flyover between Priory Road and Bricknell Avenue is to be closed to traffic for at least six weeks from September 24 to allow for repairs to the concrete sections of the bridge which spans the Hull to Beverley railway line.

Councillor Helena Woods, who represents the Priory Road area on the city council, said, “There will never be a good time to close this road and we have some concerns about it closing during Hull Fair.
“We hope that if the warning gets out early enough about the road closure it shouldn’t cause too much disruption.”

“Totally agreed Fairybunny! Such bad planning and like you say students are back on Monday - it will be a nightmare. Fortunately, I'm going to bike it as County Road is open to pedestrians and cyclists. Fingers crossed for good weather, although with the Fair starting the following week -I doubt it!”

“A sign about County Road went up yesterday. No where in said sign does it indicate the road will be closed. Working on Cottingham Road, there is literally no other route to work, this could not be at a worse time of year - the University semester starts on the 24th September so there will be even more traffic heading that way. Chanterlands Ave is up, Bricknell Ave is up, Cottingham Road at Cottingham end is up, County Road closed. Erm, why wasn't this done over the summer at the very least?!”

“So to date - there are no signs on County Road warning road users of this planned work! How on earth are people supposed to know these things and plan an alternative route if they don't know. Not that many people read the local paper/online to find out.”

“***! in our 24 hour society can this work not be completed overnight? especially the sections of the road away from housing. There must be companies out there that are desperate for contracts and would work overnight on day time rates. You don't get paid double for working nights as a nurse by the way”

For 'underway' read 'under way'.
(Tried to post yesterday but could not do so due to 'internal server error'.)”

“''Ongoing work to upgrade underground power supplies''
I can imagine the complaints if your power supply fails, get a grip you lot it's essential maintenance work, it's a pain but has to be done.
As a matter of interest, if it were up to you when would you plan it for?”
