Dark skies: UFOs were allegedly spotted over Bransholme in the Eighties.
The UFO files document all reported sightings across Britain.
The files were released by the Ministry of Defence following a freedom of information campaign by Dr David Clarke.

Dr Clarke, author of the book The UFO Files, said: "These records allow us to look behind the scenes of what must have been one of the strangest jobs in Whitehall.
"We now have a fascinating insight into some of the extraordinary reports and briefings that passed over the UFO desk on a daily basis and how its officers used logic and science in their attempts to explain 'the unexplained'."
The reported sightings in Hull occurred almost 30 years ago.
A beam of light from behind a row of trees was seen spinning around the sky on September 8, 1985.
A round object was then reported to have risen from the ground.
The object was described as having a circumference the same as a house, with a ring of red lights around its base, each being about one and a half inches in diameter.
A humming noise accompanied the light show and got louder as the object continued to rise but no smell was detected by the witnesses.
The object was seen heading east across fields from the Bransholme estate, flying at a height of about 50ft.
The sighting occurred around 1am with the movement lasting about 15 minutes. Reports from the night suggest that conditions were favourable for flying with good visibility.
According to the Ministry of Defence, at the time of the sighting a military exercise involving flares was taking place in the East Yorkshire area.
A second UFO sighting was reported in Bransholme just over a year later on October 26, 1986. This time it was described as a brightly illuminated, cigar- shaped object.
Twenty people witnessed the UFO, which was reported to be bigger than the size of a passenger aircraft, moving "west over the East Park area".
Similar sightings were reported in Lincoln, Harrogate and Boston Spa.
The 25 files, which contain more than 6,700 pages, reveal for the first time the role of the UFO desk officers. The possibility of alien visits and briefings to Tony Blair on UFO policy are also included in the files.
The desk was closed in 2009.

“Im guessing those little green fellas have been mistaking Kingswood high as some sort of alien mother ship and are just intrigued to see what the new mother ship next door looks like.”

“The only UFO I have seen didn't stay U for very long but long enough to convince me that it is easy to misidentify an unusual object. Some questions arise:
Why do UFOs not land on College Green, Red Square, White House Lawn? [Can't get immigration clearance.]
How can they navigate light years without trouble but crash on earth? [Ships hit harbour walls.]
If they are detected by radar that proves they are real. If they are not detected by radar that proves they have advanced stealth technology.
Why are so many different alien species attracted to Earth? [We're just wonderful.]
Why do they pass their messages to people who are not going to be believed, rather than to the Secretary-General of the United Nations? [You mean people believe the S-G of the UN?]
How did they learn such good English/French/Portugese....? [We have been studying your broadcasts for years.]
We have been studying your broadcasts for years. [We're all doomed.]
Why do so many of them align themselves with Venus, Mars or Jupiter from the observer's viewpoint? [Camouflage, obviously.]
Why are their warnings always about the latest world problem and not an unknown one that we haven't worked out yet? [Let's just worry about what's going on now.]
Why do the crews never give involuntary passengers a little gift to prove they have been on an alien vessel? [Advanced technology must be protected.]
If all new military aircraft are reverse-engineered UFOs why do they look like improved versions of "traditional" aircraft? [They only LOOK like that.]
If modern electronics are reverse-engineered UFO electronics how could they have been investigated without similarly advanced instruments? [They had to be copied slowly to LOOK as though the improvements were incremental.]*
Why do crashed UFOs leave behind so little wreckage? [The military forces are very efficient.]
Why are there so many "leaks" about military involvement? [The military forces are very inefficient.]
Have I been "got at" by the Men in Black? [Obviously.]
Maybe I am a Man in Black. [I fell into a burning ring of fire.]
UFOs: they exist until they become IFOs. It is highly unlikely that they are flying saucers full of little green men but wouldn't it be nice to be wrong.
*Yes, the question and the answer don't match. That happens a lot with UFO stories.”

“Members of Hull ufo society used to spend all night on vigils looking for ufo's on Bransholme, didn't they Sean. Beats going to work I suppose though and makes a huge contribution to the nation.”

“UFO's, like ghosts and ghouls will always be sighted by those that are open to their 'exsistence'. To turn the discussion onto Bransholme hatred is nothing more than infantile.
Why don't all you predjudiced idiots check the crime database?
It will show that the area of Hull most at risk of crime in the 'Riverside' zone which includes Victoria Dock, the luxury flats in the city centre etc...
To condemn an entire area and 'scoff' at it shows a deep insecurity in the poster!”
