The Hull campus of the University of Lincoln will close in 2013, it has been announced.
The future of the campus had been subject to a consultation last month.

The University of Lincoln's Hull campus in George Street.
No new students will be recruited to the full-time, three-year social work course which operates from the campus.
Students currently studying there will be unaffected.
A spokeswoman for the University of Lincoln said: "The University formally consulted with staff on the future of its Hull campus during September and October. A number of options were considered and the university's governing body has approved the recommendation to close the campus in 2013 and to develop new ways of delivering programmes to people in Hull and the East Riding in the future. "Until then it is business as usual in Hull and current students are not affected.
"We are no longer recruiting new students to the full-time, three-year BSc Social Work course, but we will still be recruiting to part-time, postgraduate and professional programmes in Hull."

“Bit of a shame as I'm sure it will suck yet a little bit more of life and vibrancy out of the City Centre and the Old Town, although much of the damage was probably inflicated several years ago after most of the departments cleared off to Lincoln. Perhaps I'm wrong but Hull must surely have the distinction of the only UK city of any standing to actually loose a University in the last 20 years - doesn't say much about the City's aspirations does it! Glad I left really!”

“Calm down John. Has someone hit a raw nerve ?
You are clearly a very sad and silly old man if you cannot see nor accept that the Labour party have ruined my city.”

“Chris stop making comments that bear no relation to my comments.
I never I agreed with the closure, I only corrected you in your blame game.
That seems to have annoyed you.
If you get it wrong admit it or shut up, but do not attack those who point out your mistakes”

“I don't know why you blithering idiots keep blaming councillors for the demise of the University of Lincoln. It is a commercial and business decision which they are entitled to do,If the local councillors spent £millions of tax payers money ( be they Labour,Lib or Tory )to try to keep it here you would be bleating about that !!!As for the university building on the river front, that was pie in the sky and it was never going to happen. Also relating to the ghost town in the city centre.Numerous applications for buildings in the centre of Hull have been passed by the planners and the developers haven't built.”

“Poor old Doctor Cyril Bibby would be spinning in his grave - god rest his soul! - the demise of the old Hull College of Higher Education, slowly lead to ruination by Roger King and following Principles...”

“That's alright then Pete! As long as you're happy with the decisions and the ghost town city centre we now have all's good! I'm wondering if, as well as ignorance, certain folk weren't paid to let Lincoln "have it all" as Lincoln has certainly reaped the benefits.”

“Chris.
I remember it different to you.
I remember the councillors objecting to the change of name from University of Humberside to University of Lincoln as they predicted the end of the campus in Hull.
They have been proved right so stop blaming the Hull councillors for the decision of the Governors of Humberside University from changing the name and opening a small off-shoot in Lincoln and now they have the whole lot there.
Blame the councillors for many things, but not this”

“The old Labour Party councillors from the 80's/90's should hang their heads in shame - I am past feeling embarrassed for them.
These dinosaurs should be named and shamed. It is because of their incompetence that this city has become the back-water that it is.
Not forgetting our(?) self-serving MP's who have proved themselves to be 'just as useless.'”

“Our long established red brick University of Hull has expanded massively over recent years with the new Business School for example taking over the former Hull College of Further Education/Humberside University/Lincoln University buildings on Cottingham Road as well as the creation of the Hull York Medical School.
We don't need a Lincoln campus in Hull and judging by the recent rhetoric from the politicians on raising tuition fees there is likely to be less universities in this country in the future anyway.”
