Update: Beverley Races abandoned because of heavy rain
Today’s racing at Beverley Racecourse has been abandoned because of heavy rain.
It had been hoped the meeting would go ahead despite a Met Office severe weather warning.
However, after an 11am inspection, the course said racing would have to be abandoned following a heavy downpour.
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for heavy and thundery downpours.

Forecasters said the 'yellow' warning, which advises people to 'be aware' meant there could be localised flooding and poor driving conditions.
The wet weather, including hail and wind, is expected throughout the day.

“If 'yellow' means to 'be aware', why not just tell people to be aware?”

“I hope it doesn't rain on Ladies day (I used the word lady but most are not)
If it rains the spray tan will be running, the Primarni dresses shrinking, the white stilettos full of mud, the bins full of Stella bottles, and the limos full of vomit,
(you can take the girl out of Bransholme but you can't take Bransholme out of the girl)”
