Luke Campbell switched on Hull's Christmas lights this evening and said he was delighted to be back among the crowds who cheered him to Olympic gold.

He was joined on the balcony at Hull City Hall by the Chuckle Brothers and the Lord Mayor Danny Brown.

Coca-Cola's Christmas truck was also in town as part of a day of events.

Moments after the big moment, the heavens opened, but the rain did not dampen Christmas spirits in Queen Victoria Square.

    “Mandoona,
It's not a lot of people clicking the minus arrows. It is one little Nerd who has removed the cookie that prevents multiple voting from his computer. I feel I can comfortably say "his" as it is the sort of thing certain males do to improve their smugness and banish their feelings of inadequacy. Usually also the ones who can't afford a car with a long pointy bonnet.”

“It saddens me that so many people now think that "it's xmas because the coke lorry ad has been on TV'
Seriously, do they not realise how pathetic that sounds?

It's a company that makes drinks (and lots and lots and lots and lots of money) having successfully convinced masses of people that they need it's product in order to celebrate their winter festival/tradition/holiday.

It seems that most of the comments here agree with this, yet all of them have lots of 'minus' arrows. I would like to hear from the people that clicked the 'minus arrows'. I can assure you, that there are many many more arguments why you shouldn't allow this company to brainwash you.

Here is just one example http://tinyurl.com/6afxvx and there are many more.”

“Going to be a lot of disappointed people when they check the picture from the truck.... very poor quality..

The poor quality is due to the website it is stored on as they used a expensive camera which will have produced a very reasonable quality of picture...

Glad i had the common sense to take some decent pics with my own camera.”

“@CarmellaBrown: I'm sorry you didn't like it this evening. I would have preferred TonyWilson's Tetley Bitter truck or the Hull Brewery Dray Horses, but don't forget it's still November! At least something has ventured off the A1/M1 and come to Hull, even if it is a Coca Cola lorry.

Seeing as you like our culture, towards the end of next month (December), I'm sure you'll find many churches offering you Nine Lessons and Carols or maybe just carols. I'm sure you will be welcomed wherever you decide to go - you might even get a free mince pie!

Being a traditionalist, are you for or against women Bishops? Maybe you're not CofE, but don't forget Christmas is about celebrating the Birth of Christ.

(Anyone know that feeling when a troll has just wound you up?)”

“Good to see a local lad in Luke Campbell switching the lights on, but why didn't he say a few words before doing so? Instead we had to listen to the "Dave Burn's Show". The crowd came to see & hear Luke not Burnsy.”

“I wonder if the poor sod trying to get his car out of Princes Dock Street has succeeded yet....should have been close to parking the minute the lorry arrived. Bad planning...or not planning there HCC!”
