'Use plastic glasses on match days'
More than a dozen pubs around the KC Stadium have been asked by police to serve bottled beer in plastic glasses on Hull City match days.
The request, by letter, comes after violence erupted when West Ham came to play the Tigers in September.
The Mail understands the letter, addressed from a PC Amanda Houchen, was sent to 14 licensed premises.
It explains how glass bottles were used as projectiles and as a result officers have asked that the bottles be dispensed into polycarbonate containers.
However, the request has not been met with appreciation by some landlords.
John Brown, of Brownies Bar in Anlaby Road, west Hull, said: "I feel like we are being persecuted by the police. It is ridiculous.
"Anyone who wants to get hold of bottles for those purposes can do so quite easily by buying them from any number of off-licences in the area.
"All the time I feel like the pubs are being penalised unfairly. I have worked hard to build my business up and the police are making it harder for me."

“My son recently was in a glassing incident. Because it was a plastic glass he came away with a broken nose and bruising. If it had been a proper glass who knows what would've happened. All pubs should be using plastic glasses pemanently.”

“Now,had they banned drinking when they banned smoking none of this would have happened. I've never heard it reported that someone kicked the living daylights out of someone after having had 10 CIGS,but I have heard after someone smelled the barmaids apron. Ban it!”

“Sarah, no one has been glassed or bottled at City match. but it happens frequently in the city centre. So, using that as the basis for a decision, the town centre should use palstic and the pubs around the KC should continue with glasses.”

“Tim, this article is about using plastic glasses because of supporters. How many people have been glassed or hit by a bottle at football? None. The description of what happened that day was an exaggeration verging on a downright lie. I just hope the landlady was misquoted otherwise she doesn't deserve the custom of any city fans. No bottles or glaases were raining down in the pub. People were stood watching the Stoke v Tottenham game. As uusual the place slipped up, let the West Ham fans escape from surveillance and then try and put the whole thing back on football fans.
What has all your rubbish about snipers etc to do with this?
Though, given the amount of RL players who have been done for glassing and bottling people going back many years, naming no names but they were crooks, then they should insist on plastic glasses and bottles whereever RL players drink.”

“Any sport has 'supporters' who are violent. Both my son and I support Hull City and have had no problems and seen no problems. The police idea is sound but, in my opinion, unnecessary since it is a minority who cause the problem and the police are paid enough to sort it out.”
