For 15 years, Reverend Jarrod Cooper had a vision to open and run a Christian school.

And now, it looks set to come to fruition as Hull's newest school opens its doors in September.

Initially, the New Life Academy will teach up to 60 pupils, aged five to nine.

But in time, it is hoped the school will teach pupils up to 18 years.

Rev Cooper said: "I have done quite a bit of travelling and have seen models of this sort of school all over the world.

"The character, quality and calibre of the children all really come through at the schools.

"I have had it in my head that I would like to be able to start one."

The £2,000-a-year fee-paying school will be based in refurbished church buildings next door to the New Life Christian Centre in Bridlington Avenue, west Hull.

Pupils will be taught the Protestant faith in specially-adapted work books.

Each child will be taught individually, rather than in a class, ensuring they work at their own pace.

Rev Cooper said: "The style of the school is totally different. Our curriculum, called ACE, is a system I have seen in various parts of the world and is based around individual learning.

"A lot of it is based around basic good character and values.

"Rather than everyone moving on at the same pace, regardless of whether they have understood or not, pupils will move at their own pace.

"They will be taught in their own individual desk area and a teacher will go around giving individual help."

Work books will cover all the core subjects, including English, maths and science, and pupils will be set daily goals, according to ability.

Rev Cooper said: "They will learn to be self-motivated. If a child is brilliant at maths then they can race ahead and take their exams, perhaps aged 14."

Pupils learning each subject will also be pointed to passages from the Bible related to their learning.

Joanne Bickerton has been appointed headteacher of the school.

She is currently a senior manager at Clifton Primary School in Burslem Street, west Hull.

Ms Bickerton said: "For me, this is a chance to combine my experience within the mainstream education system with the best of Christian teaching for parents who want to bring their children up with these beliefs and principles.

"There will be exciting teaching and learning. It will produce children of integrity and character."

The school will be inspected by Ofsted like any other private or state school.

It is expected the school will attract parents and pupils from across Hull and the East Riding.

Parents of prospective pupils are invited to open days on Monday, March 22, at 7.30pm and Saturday, April 24, at 10am.

“"The beast was captured and with him the False Prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshipped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulphur. The rest of them were killed with the sword..." Revelations 19: 20-21

Please do not deliver your children into the arms of this brainwashing cult! They are the false prophet, they have the nerve to pretend to be Christians!

It is a business not a religion, they have created this "school" in order to continue spreading their disease. Hitler did the same thing, he created the 'Hitler Youth'...

They will seem nice in front of their "church", don't be deceived by this, behind their mask they are evil, two faced, brainwashed and seriously damaged.”

“Mike, how boring. I thought everyone likes a good debate and by the looks of things this story has brought out the best of opinions and thoughts.

    And George, no.

Both of you seem to be out to spoil all our fun.

Looking back, it would seem that the school has already been filled by cult, sorry, Christian followers. Give your kids a chance. All that morality b*llocks is really starting to get right on my todger.”

“Isn't it appalling that our children can be taught anything and everything in schools and we accept it crediting ourselves of being broad minded and yet when someone is taking effort to teach them historically proven best practices we are up in arms against them.”

“Okay, people have huge opinions on this so it seems. Here's an idea, if you like it, send your kids, if you don't like it, don't send your kids.

I think its best we all stopped moaning about it, its happening, either get on board with it or ignore it.

Personally, to think this is a private school that is this cheap and offer bursaries... Well I'll be sending my kids that's for sure.

and one last thing, its a Christian school, its not a cult... people calm down please.”
